There is still no official word as to when the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google’s upcoming superphone that will be the first smartphone from the Android platform to run on the Ice Cream Sandwich version, will hit the market Stateside, but it is encouraging to see that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has already made its way to the FCC. Yes sir, this can only mean one thing – once it picks up FCC approval and certification, it should be very near a release from the mobile carrier known as Verizon Wireless. Since the accessories for the smartphone have already arrived at Verizon, the phone should follow suit shortly after. (more…)

I guess in another alternate timeline, the folks over at iFixit will most probably make up one of the most efficient pit crew in racing – after all, they certainly did not lose any time to take the Kindle Fire apart so soon after it was released. One day, in fact, was all it took, leaving the innards of the Kindle Fire to be seen by all and sundry. I suppose that the ease at of which the Kindle Fire could be dismantled did help their cause by a huge margin, and the innards are pretty much the same as with most of the other tablets in the market. Simple components are the order of the day, so needless to say, it would be a no-brainer to repair (as opposed to the iPad, of course). (more…)

Nokia certainly has every intention to be successful and climb back from the long slide due to their eroding market share with the advancement of smartphones from competitors such as Apple and Google, and their first step to redemption came in the form of the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 which was recently released at Nokia World 2011 last month. Well, while the current range of Windows Phone 7 devices from the Finnish phone manufacturer is not even available in every nook and cranny of the world yet, there are already rumors floating around, touting that next generation devices are in the pipeline – and high end models to boot, powered by the Windows 8 operating system. If you really want to live out the green lifestyle, then you would surely have an electric car on your shopping list – or at least a hybrid vehicle. Well, here is some good news to cheer you up if you feel that the Tesla roadster is out of your price range, Greentech Automotive will start the production of their all electric MyCar in Horn Lake from November 11th onwards. There is one huge advantage of driving this around – it is going to be produced in a manner where quality is not compromised, and yet will be cheap enough for the masses. Hopefully their vision comes true, but one thing ought to be said of this vehicle, it will seat only two adults, so forget about this if you’re a family man. (more…)

Who would have thought that a slab of cheese with holes inside might actually be the inspiration to boost the performance of batteries in devices that we use? Yes sir, scientists have actually managed to give battery strength a much needed boost with something as simple as creating small holes in them, where this new and novel material mix might allow it to be fully juiced up from flat in a mere 15 minutes. Sure as heck beats waiting for a few hours to have your smartphone, portable media player or digital camera get charged up to full strength, no? (more…)

I have gone through a few Android-powered smartphones from the HTC Desire to the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Live Walkman, Sony Ericsson Arc S, and now, the HTC Sensation, and have found one common denominator (no, if you answered the operating system being the same, that’s not the answer I am looking for) – their battery life hardly lasts beyond 24 hours. Of course, I leave my 3G connection on at all times without relying on Wi-Fi, surf for around 30 minutes to an hour each day, send approximately 5 text messages and 10 emails or so, and check my Facebook updates rather often, for some context. NTT DoCoMo, one of the major players in Japan, are still keeping their fingers crossed that the suits over at Apple will come to a decision and make the iPhone available to them, as they believe that with the iPhone in their portfolio, they will be able to boost their subscriber base – or at least retain their customers, as there might be a disgruntled bunch who will eventually decide to make the leap to another carrier simply because of the availability of the iPhone.
