Foldable AMOLED display never creases even after
100,000 times

Are you an engineer who thrives on solving problems? Well, it is said that when it comes to the design of mobile devices, one of the biggest challenges to overcome would be to maximize the display while minimizing the size of the device. Researchers from the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology in South Korea intend to deliver such a premise using a seamless foldable display prototype which is capable of folding in half – all without having you see a visible crease right down the middle as what most people would expect. Flexible, extendable displays have always been of interest to people, but the majority of these can be bent or rolled – but never folded for obvious reasons. To come up with a display which can fold completely in half would be a triumph in engineering, as that would mean being able to deliver a large screen in a small, portable form. Guess the crease problem has been solved now, right?

Windows Phone 7 Mango update to deliver more than
just Office 365 and Facebook Chat

Any update is a good update, right? As long as it works fine and dandy – otherwise, it would be better off fixed before being rolled out. We have word that the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Mango update has quite the bunch of goodies in store for you, including Facebook Chat integration for you to keep up with your buddies in real time, never mind that you are no longer tethered to your desk or notebook, waiting over your Facebook page in a browser to receive a message. To sweeten the deal, Facebook Chat integration with Windows Live Messenger is also implemented for a happy marriage (we hope).

NVIDIA says next-gen Android tablets will be far
better

According to NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, it can be quite safe to assume that concerns and issues surrounding the initial batch of Android-powered tablets “have been largely addressed”, so that would mean nothing but good news for the next generation of Android 3.1 Honeycomb-powered devices as vast improvements can be expected. Here’s an excerpt of Huang’s insight :-

A new wave of tablets are now ramping up and are even more affordable and available on retail channels with WiFi configurations all over the world. You?re also starting to see a lot of different shade of platforms, from devices that are like the Asus transformer where it is a tablet in one configuration and has a detachable keyboard in another configuration. And so those kind of devices are getting a lot of interest and available in computer channels all over the world.

We?re going to expect another wave of tablets that are coming out to the marketplace now, ones that are even thinner and even lighter than the best offerings from anyplace, any supplier in the world. And those devices are just in the process of ramping. There?s the really exciting new build of Honeycomb called Honeycomb 3.1 that Google just demonstrated the other day at Google I/O. We are basically stitching that up now.

RIM recalls more than 900 BlackBerry PlayBook
tablets

The bad news surrounding the BlackBerry PlayBook by Research In Motion (RIM) does seem to pile up by the day – we have unofficial word via a Staples memo RIM will be recalling more than 900 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, and since the memo failed to divulge the reason behind the recall, what better way than to hear from the horse’s mouth? Contacting RIM, here is what they had to say about the entire shebang.

RIM determined that approximately one thousand BlackBerry PlayBook tablets (16 GB) were shipped with an OS build that may result in the devices being unable to properly load software upon initial set-up.

The majority of the affected devices are still in the distribution channel and haven’t reached customers. RIM is working to replace the affected devices.

In the small number of cases where a customer received a PlayBook that is unable to properly load software upon initial set-up, they can contact RIM for assistance.

Samsung Galaxy S II update fixes auto-brightness
issue

One of the cooler features in touchscreen phones these days would be the ability for said handsets to adjust their lighting levels according to the brightness around it, thanks to a built-in light sensor. This will not only let your eyes enjoy optimal viewing at any time of the day (save for when you are outdoors, of course, unless you don’t mind your phone sporting an E Ink display), but it will also do its smart bit to preserve battery life as and where necessary. Interestingly enough, Samsung has issued a couple of updates for their Galaxy S II smartphone, where they claim that those updates will zap a bug that was related to the automatic brightness control.

Razer Nostromo Expert Gaming Pad Review

The notion of a separate custom intended WSAD keypad has been in existence for 50 percent a decade now, with products such as Saitek Cyborg gaming pad, Wolf Claw and variants, the really unwieldy Claw, and Belkin’s Nostromo N52 Speedpad.
