The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan has recently come up with a new gadget that could possibly give touchscreen manufacturers a run for their money. They’ve managed to come up with a special device that can turn any TV (no matter what size it is) into a touchscreen device. Imagine buying a 55″ touchscreen display ? the price tag isn’t going to be very pretty. However, this device will allow you to turn a regular 55″ TV into a touchscreen display. Now that’s more affordable. Not to mention convenient if you already own a large screen TV at home that you don’t want to replace.
The device consists of two sensors that are attached to the top and bottom corner of one side of the TV, and they can detect where your fingers are on the screen, allowing users to interact with whatever is being displayed (assuming it is a touch-capable app). It can even detect two point multi-touch gestures, so pinch to zoom is not out of the question. No word on whether it’ll be supporting pressure (it looks unlikely) but it does seem like a very interesting concept. Check out a video demo after the break:

In an official press release today, Panasonic Solutions Company has announced that it is currently working on a 3D ready, full HD, home theater projector that is a successor to the PT-AE4000U. The PT-AE4000U was Panasonic’s current home theater projector that makes use of the 2.35:1 wide aspect cinemascope view with its Lens Memory Feature. Panasonic’s next projector (currently unnamed) will feature 3D capabilities to bring a larger than life 3D experience that not possible with TVs.
Other than that, the release was stingy with details, offering nothing much about the projector, but we it did mention that we’ll be seeing the projector during this year, so expect more details in the future.

As we’ve mentioned countless times on the blog, we’re always keen on covering green products, and the iBamboo Speaker is no exception. Merging technology with nature, this iPhone dock takes the simplicity of nature combined with acoustic technology to bring us an audio amplification device that’s 100% recyclable and safe for the environment.
While the iBamboo Speaker dock doesn’t charge your iPhone while it is in use, it does amplify the sound coming out of it without the need of cables or any fancy technology. It is basically just a hollow tube that is made out from bamboo, with a slot for you to place your iPhone. Any sound that is played from the device is amplified in the bamboo tube due to its design.
Eco friendly and fully functional ? what more could we ask for? If you’re interested in having one of these made, check out the Kickstarter page for the iBamboo Speaker dock to pre-order one: prices start at $25. The project is going to need a lot more backers in order to become a reality. Video after the break:

Add to myYahoo! This year Activision has a pair of Call of Duty games for hardcore FPS gamers: Modern Warfare 3 and Elite. The latter, as you may have heard is a subscription-based online segment that will be fully integrated into Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops and will feature live running totals of statistics and tight connections to social networks. While initially received with very little fanfare (gamers erupted in anger at the subscription), over 2 million testers have already signed up to try it out – all in two weeks.
To put it all into perspective, Activision actually says that amongst 30 million Call of Duty players, 2 million is hardly a number to be boasting about, but is still impressive. So how many of you have decided to join Elite‘s beta testing round? Are you that big of a fan you’ll pay for the subscription (it’ll also be available with free features) when it lands in retail this fall?

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata sure is speaking his mind lately isn’t he? Well, in the latest interview with AllThingsD, Iwata let it stand clear that he and Nintendo have no plans to ever offer free games whether it be on mobile devices or social networks (like Angry Birds on Android and FarmVille on Facebook). By doing so, he believes consumers devalue content and contribute to the downhill fall of quality games. Decreasing a game’s price “wouldn’t be a bright future and the entire industry will fold.”
In short “Nintendo is not interested” in the freemium market. But let’s say if Nintendo were to go down the freemium route, given its exponential growth on social networks like Facebook, Iwata says the company would only do so if it could put a unique spin on things.
Naturally, Iwata also reiterates that Nintendo is a hardware and software company. Iwata says Nintendo will never develop its IPs such as Mario, Zelda and Metroid on other platforms. Yeah, that’s also what Sega said before dropping out of the hardware race and milking Sonic out on every platform as possible.
