The Android operating system seems to be doing pretty well these days, popping up all over the place across multiple manufacturers. This time round, it is the upcoming Sony Ericsson Yendo Walkman handset that will offer the Android experience to users, where it will be available in multiple colors to suit just about any occasion. Judging by the screen size, this might very well be a budget-friendly Android phone which is a rarity since most Android smartphones tend to be on the high end side of the spectrum. Hopefully Sony Ericsson keeps to their word of it being out shortly.

Belkin aims to do its bit for the environment by rolling out the Conserve Insight, a device that boasts an easy-to-read display which will help you monitor your energy use, showing off just how much the devices plugged into power outlets around your home actually cost you in watts, dollars as well as carbon dioxide. To find out, just plug a device like a TV or microwave into the Conserve Insight and be prepared to be shocked. It would be interesting to see whether all of those Energy Star ratings are actually up to snuff or not. [Press Release]

Before you throw out that old router of yours, you might want to think of how you are going to recycle it. Some smart aleck decided to hack an unwanted router into a range-expanding Wi-Fi repeater that helps cover everywhere you need a connection. It is a pretty complicated process if you follow the source link, so make sure you have enough time, patience and technical nous before embarking on this green adventure.

Add to myYahoo!Keita Ogawa has come up with a concept for a lamp that comes in the form of a melting LED bulb, helping remind you that each time one of these puppies are turned on, you are doing your bit to consume energy while introducing a whole host of other maladies associated with energy consumption in the world, especially when you rely on non-renewable sources of energy to power that lamp. While this concept is not ready to hit the mass market yet, a working prototype is already available as evident in the video above. Gadgets seem to make decent reminders at poking our consciences, eh?

A private telecommunications company wants to introduce Wi-Fi service to a couple of New York City area train lines. Mobilitie currently operates the free Wi-Fi service NYFI, and has submitted a proposal to build a wireless network for the Metro North and Long Island Rail Road lines. This service will no doubt be free to riders, and will be built and supported solely by revenue from ads. With many folks spending more and more time outside of the office, working while traveling is an option not to be scorned at, and with cloud computing applications getting more and more prevalent these days, it makes perfect sense to be able to go online on a train during your daily commute, even if it is just to tidy up a simple document.
