Air Swimmer remote controlled fish swims through
the air

Fish are supposed to zip through water, but just what the heck is this – a fish that swims, nay, flies through air and is not of the flying fish genus? We’re talking about the Air Swimmer radio controlled helium balloon fish, and you use a remote control to direct it around the room, much to the excitement of little children and looks of amusement from adults. Hinged tails will help this toy flit around, and batteries will naturally be required in the fish as well as the remote, moving around for up to four hours before replacements are required. The helium should be good for two weeks at best, and you can choose from clown fish and shark models at $40 a pop when they hit the market this coming July. To get a better idea on how it works, do check out the video after the jump.

Solowheel outrides Segway

Want to know just how cool the Solowheel is compared to Segways? Well, why not check out the video of it in action in the extended post, where you see the rather elderly man riding on it without fear of crashing (and without protective gear, to boot!) while enjoying a lovely day outdoors on a single wheel. Talk about reinventing the wheel! Spotted at the International Toy Fair in New York, this product is a self-balancing unicycle and some people have quoted that the Solowheel maxes out at 12 mph with a battery that will exhaust itself after an hour or so of use. We’re not too sure of the learning curve of this, and who is brazen enough to test out its physical limits when going downhill and tackling corners at speed?

Man purchases fake iPad from Walmart, refused
refund

We would suggest to our dear readers that the next time you purchase a new device at a store, open up the box there and then to check your goods – especially if you’re at Walmart. A man from Georgia claims that he purchased an iPad from Walmart, and upon opening it at home, he realized that the case is fake, while the glass touchscreen does not work (due to it being  fake, surprise, surprise) with nothing inside. Yup, you’ve guessed it right – he received a dummy unit for this money. How could this happen? Perhaps someone ‘returned’ the iPad, but put in a store demo dummy instead, where said packaging went through the restocking process only to leave Ken Lemal feeling shellshocked and cheated. Lemal will be bringing Walmart to the small-claims court since Walmart believes that he is the one trying to trade in the dummy unit. What do you think?

doubleTwist lets Android users stream media to
game consoles

If you happen to own either an Xbox 360 or PS3 (or both) in addition to an Android-powered phone, you might be interested to check out doubleTwist – a new app for Google’s mobile operating system which functions in a similar manner to that of an iTunes-synching program. doubleTwist is able to stream your Android handset’s media straight to your PS3 and Xbox 360 courtesy of its new AirTwist feature. Folks who have already purchased the doubleTwist AirSync application will not have to fork out a single penny for this free update, where it works similar to other DLNA applications by popping up on your console the moment it is launched. Future updates expect AirTwist to enable more DLNA devices including streaming.

Mozilla says the latest Internet Explorer is not
modern enough

We do know that the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate is now available, but does that mean it will help Microsoft claw back its market share that has eroded steadily for some time already? Still, despite the advances and new technological implementations in IE9, its rivals cannot but help themselves from sniping it from afar. Mozilla has stated that this latest incarnation of IE is not a “modern browser”, where Mozilla technical evangelist Paul Rouget has something to say about the graphic that you see above, showing references standards-happy tests from across the web, including caniuse.com and html5tests.com. This is what he shared :-

Does IE9 support 99% of the HTML5 specification as insinuated by Microsoft? No, they’re actually pretty far from it. The tests Microsoft are referring to are the ones they created during the development of IE9. It’s not that surprising that they pass the very tests they used to design and develop the browser.

Apart from that, he shares the list of standards that IE9 doesn’t support, where among them include Web Workers, offline Application Cache, HTML5 forms, JavaScript Strict Mode, the File API, and WebGL.

Charge Battery relies on good ol winding power

Eneloops from Sanyo, when it first hit the scene, proved to be quite the hit considering they were charged right out of the box, and had a lifespan of more than a thousand charges without the “memory effect” problem – that is, the battery not being charged to its full capacity, at least for quite some time (in my case, anyways). Check out the Charge Battery concept that takes a different route when it comes to getting juiced – no sir, you won’t find flexible solar panels on the outside of these batteries, but rather, they work in a similar manner to winding toys, although we don’t think that a few twists are enough to bring it up to capacity. If only someone could build some sort of motor that is hamster-powered to turn the Charge Battery…

Ice Cream Sandwich a combination of Gingerbread
and Honeycomb

What happens when you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place? How about, out of the fire and into the frying pan? Both adages are pretty negative expressions, since it also means “Heads I win, tails you lose”. Well, here’s some uplifting sweet news for Android fans – what happens in between Gingerbread and Honeycomb? We’re talking about the possibility of a new Android version known as Ice Cream Sandwich according to Google’s CEO. No idea on whether Ice Cream Sandwich will cater for smartphones only, or will it target tablets instead. How about both? After all, Gingerbread will play nice with smartphones and Honeycomb has been optimized for tablets, so a unified operating system in between makes sense to provide more options.
