NVIDIA has launched its second generation of stereo 3D technology which improves many aspects of using stereo 3D on computers. For a starter, 3D Vision 2 is designed to make the experience more immersive. To achieve that goal, NVIDIA has designed the active shutter glasses with a 20% larger lens so that players don’t see the frames (as much as possible).
NVIDIA’s partners now provide monitors that are up to 27″ big. The monitors are also brighter to compensate for the loss of brightness that is inherent to active-shutter glasses (passive system will trade off resolution/image quality instead). NVIDIA calls this 3D LightBoost, and it will come to 3D laptops as well. If you wonder, NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 is backwards-compatible with the first generation of products and it should this month.

We’ve previously mentioned that Amazon’s Silk Web Browser isn’t exactly new technology ? Opera has been doing it for years now. While the latter company has gone about its business without raising any concerns, it looks like Amazon isn’t faring too well in this department. In case you need a refresher, Amazon’s Silk Web Browser is a web browser for its upcoming Kindle Fire tablet, that lets users surf the web at blazing speeds due to its optimization technology. Every page you visit with the browser, Amazon optimizes and compresses it on its own servers before you even get to read it on the tablet, hence the increased speed and faster load times.

Add to myYahoo! This is the Plattan from Urbanears, and it is designed to be a classic looking set of headphones. Right now, I am listening to them now, and I’m pretty pleased with their performance. According to @Black_Man_X, a tipster who’s well-known for his accurate predictions, Samsung might not be the only company to release a stock Android phone this year. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, Google uses “Nexus” to describe its flagship Android phones that carry the pure Android experience. No added bloatware or manufacturer/carrier customizations ? just plain Android. So far there have been two Nexus phones ? the Nexus One and the Nexus S, with the upcoming Nexus Prime from Samsung being the third.
Well, according to a recent tweet from @Black_Man_X, he hints that there will be other stock Android Ice Cream Sandwich phones launched before the end of the year. There was no mention of which manufacturers will be on board or when they will be announced, but it’s good to know that we’ll have options other than a Samsung phone if we want stock ICS. As usual, take this rumor with a pinch of salt but we’ll keep you posted on any new developments.

Looking forward to the latest batch of Android phones from T-Mobile? Well, it looks like they’ll be here soon enough. The folks over at TmoNews have reported that dummy phones for the myTouch, myTouch Q and LG Doubleplay have started arriving at the carrier’s retail outlets. The phones are expected to launch on November 2nd so that gives you about half a month to play around with the dummy units to get a feel of them before deciding if they’re worth the wait. Too bad you can’t play around with the touchscreens, but hey ? at least you know how big the phones will be in your hand. Check out more images at the source link. Anybody planning to pick up one of the aforementioned phones next month?

Yesterday we reported that Skype has been officially acquired by Microsoft, and while it’s only been a day it looks like Microsoft has already released new versions of its Skype software. The new versions of Skype 5.5 and Skype 5.6 now no longer offer any third party tools or offers from one of Microsoft’s biggest rivals, Google. An understandable move, but let’s hope this doesn’t mean that Microsoft will bundle its own tools or offers with Skype in the future. Nobody loves bloatware.
Fortunately the removal of third party products wasn’t the only improvement to Skype. The update also plugs a memory leak for Skype’s Firefox plugin, as well as fixes an issue that causes the app to crash when running on Windows 8 Developer’s Preview. You can expect to see a lot more Skype being integrated into future versions of Microsoft products in the future.

It looks like Time Warner Cable is stepping up its game with its video on demand service. The company has just announced that it will be offering films on the same day as their theatrical release as part of its new Movies On Demand Early Screening feature. Talk about convenient! Starting today, TWC subscribers will be able to watch Trespass (opening today) in the comfort of their own homes instead of having to lineup for movie tickets at a cinema. Next week, they’ll be able to enjoy Marginal Call (October 21st). Melancholia (November 11th) is also available now ? before its theatrical release next month.

It’s no surprise that the iPhone has the capability to move units and Sprint got to experience it for the first time today. As you all know by now, Sprint has been left out of the iPhone party over the past few years, due to AT&T’s exclusivity deal which only ended earlier this year. Verizon was the second carrier in the US to pick it up, and with the launch of the iPhone 4S, Sprint joined the party. And it looks like it only took a few hours to reach its milestone for best ever day of sales for a device family. Here’s what the carrier just announced:
“Sprint today reported its best ever day of sales in retail, web and telesales for a device family in Sprint history with the launch of iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. We reached this milestone at approximately noon CT/1pm ET. The response to this device by current and new customers has surpassed our expectations and validates our customers? desire for a truly unlimited data pricing plan.”
It looks like they made a good decision in picking up the iPhone this year. Now the only major carrier that has yet to pick up the iPhone will be T-Mobile (even though people have been using T-Mobile iPhones on 2G for some time now). How many of you bought an iPhone on Sprint today?
