Nykos Zoom makes the Kinect better for smaller
rooms

One of the things that is required of the Microsoft Kinect is that it requires some room between the user and the unit itself. I can honestly say that in my current living room space, the Kinect wouldn?t function at top capacity. Nyko, makers of some quality video game merchandise, have figured out the problem [...]

Manhattan dweller creates Origami Apartment

Speck iGuy keeps your iPad safe

Speck iGuyIf you have kids who love to play with your iPad, you probably have some fears about them mishandling the tablet and damaging it. Most of the time, a regular leather case won’t be able to do a good job protecting the device, but it looks like Speck has the solution to your problems with its new iPad case called the iGuy. Made out of a soft and squishy case, the iGuy wraps around your iPad like a regular case and keeps it protected from the usual bumps and knocks against walls and furniture and the occasional drops that are bound to happen.

The cute appearance of the case also makes the tablet look more appealing to kids in the event that you have to encourage them to play with the tablet. The iGuy also features legs and arms which make the tablet easy to grab hold of, as well as doubling up as an upright stand for watching movies on. Available in lime, peacock or mango, and compatible with the iPad and iPad 2, the Speck iGuy is has a price tag of $39.95 though you can get it for $32 on Amazon.

BlackBerry London: First BBX device spotted in
the wild

BlackBerry LondonLast week RIM mentioned that their upcoming BBX phones won’t look anything like the BlackBerry Bold, and judging by a photograph that recently found its way into the offices of The Verge, it looks like they weren’t joking around. The photograph shows a never seen before BlackBerry device, running a band new operating system that looks vaguely similar to QNX (PlayBook’s OS).

The phone has been given the codename London and is supposed to be released in June 2012. The phone’s specs are: a 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. It is supposedly thinner than the iPhone 4 and roughly the same size as a Galaxy S2. According to the tipster, the phone can also be stood straight up on one of its sides.

While there’s no telling if it’s a cleverly faked photograph, but the folks over at BGR are corroborating with the report, so there should be some truth behind this phone. Regardless, we won’t be seeing it anytime soon so don’t hold your breath ? at least not till next year. What do you think of the London?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 receives botched
Honeycomb update

Galaxy Tab updateIt seems like an update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been pushed out prematurely. Quite a number of folks who received the update discovered some problems with the update: while the update brings the tablet to Android 3.2 Honeycomb, it breaks the tablet’s WiFi capability ? which is a huge deal for a WiFi-only device. However, some folks have found a workaround to this problem by connecting via a static IP address.

Other issues with the update include: problems connecting to Kies, “Firmware update failed. Please try installing using Kies (PC)?” message on boot, and auto-rotation not working anymore. Issuing a fix for the tablet is going to be a huge issue for Samsung, seeing how it can’t push it out through WiFi or Kies for the broken tablets. Hopefully a solution will come soon. In the meantime, for those of you who haven’t updated your tablet yet, it’d be a good idea to stay away from the update until it has been fixed.

Apple Siri Request Sent From Non-iPhone 4S
devices

An developer has reverse-engineered how the iPhone 4S talks to the Siri servers, and has successfully sent requests from a non-iPhone device. In case you don’t know, Siri works by using a three-steps methods: 1/voice recording (on the phone) 2/voice recognition (on a server) 3/ taking action (on the phone).

Because the smartness is on a web server, requests could be sent from any web-enabled device. Of course, we’ve known all along that limiting Siri to the iPhone 4S is completely artificial, but what does this really mean for you? (more…)

T-Mobile to headline Google Music event

T-Mobile Google inviteLast week Google sent out invites to a special event that is happening on the 16th (this Wednesday), and while the invitation hinted at Google Music, it looks like we’ve got more clues to what’s going to happen. Another round of invites just went out, and this time it’s a joint invitation from T-Mobile and Google. While it isn’t clear what role T-Mobile is going to play in the event, the invitation mentions a whole lineup of artistes like Drake, Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes, Dirty South and R3hab; tying in even more to the theme of Google Music.

Could T-Mobile be announcing new devices at the launch? Or will Google Music start off as a T-Mobile exclusive? (Let’s hope not.) Perhaps it will be the launch of T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus (which should please a lot of people). Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you posted.
