But in case you used Wikipedia this week and found a particular page with a banner advertisement at the top, chances are that your computer is infected with a certain type of malware. Writing to its users today via its official blog, Wikipedia said that it never runs ads on its pages and that Wikipedia is funded by more than a million donors. “If you?re seeing advertisements for a for-profit industry or anything but our fundraiser, then your web browser has likely been infected with malware,” Philippe Beaudette of Wikipedia said. We already know that Microsoft has marked the month June for the launching of Windows 8 Release Preview. In preparation for that, Microsoft has been highlighting the nifty features of its next generation operating system. Today, Microsoft has revealed a new parental control feature that will be included in the upcoming build. Microsoft said that Windows 8 will now allow parents to monitor what their kids are doing online, no matter where they use their PCs. Known as Family Safety, the feature is easy to set-up. Scytl, a leader in election software solutions, has announced the successful implementation of its online voting encryption technology for use on Android and Apple iOS devices. According to Scytl, the company is now able to guarantee end-to-end security – from the voter to the final tally – not only for computer-based online voting but also for mobile voting.
The company said via press release that encrypting the ballot on the voter?s device before it is transmitted to the digital ballot box server is one of the critical security features offered by its online voting system. Video game and entertainment software retailer GameStop has announced that it will start selling Steam Wallet cards for Valve’s Steam platform starting May 15. In partnership with Valve, GameStop will bring Steam Wallet to all GameStop locations in the U.S. Steam Wallet codes will be available in $20 and $50 denominations giving PC and Mac gamers immediate access to Steam?s more than 1,800 titles. The cards will provide Steam users with an alternative payment method to credit cards, PayPal, JCB, and Click and Buy. Steve Nix, General Manager of Digital Distribution for GameStop says that the company is thrilled to partner with Valve.

A few days ago, we wrote about the possibility for Amazon to release color e-book Kindles this year. Today, Reuters is backing up the rumor by saying that Amazon will indeed launch new versions of its Kindle e-reader and Kindle Fire tablet, including a monochrome e-reader with front lighting. According to Reuters, a source of theirs who claims to have direct knowledge of the matter told them that the world’s largest Internet retailer is planning to have the new e-reader in stores in July. The source, who asked not to be named because Amazon has not yet made the decision public, also told Reuters that Amazon has been ramping up production of the new Kindle which will run on E Ink’s display.
