Daniel Amitay, the developer of the Big Brother Camera Security app for the iPhone recently updated the app to send passwords that users set for the app, back to him for some research he was doing. Since the Big Brother Camera Security app lock and passcode screen is similar to the iPhone’s default lockscreen, he assumed that people would be using the same passwords for both his app and the phone.
All the passwords were sent to him, anonymously, and he collated all the data into a bar chart listing the most common passwords that were being used by his customers. While the method he used to get the passwords were questionable (his app has since been removed from the App Store), what’s interesting is the top 10 passwords that were being used. Admittedly one of them looks familiar to me but it’s for a throwaway login that isn’t important.
How many of you have passwords that are in the list? If you do, it’s time for a password change – just in case. Read more about the experiment.

One of the exciting features revealed for iOS 5 is the ability to snap photographs using the iPhone’s Volume up button. Well, some folks have done some experimenting and realized that this volume up functionality extends beyond the scope of the phone’s own buttons, and it works when used with an iPhone headset as well (if it has buttons for increasing the volume).
While this brings to mind some stealthily taken photographs without people knowing, it does have its legit uses as well. Assuming it does work with a Bluetooth headset, just get yourself a tripod for the iPhone and you’ll have a pretty decent remote camera rig. Hit the break to watch a video demonstration of the camera being controlled with the volume control on a headset:

Tablets are the hot topic of the year and with the zillion of devices pouring on the market, it is hard to know what the best choices out there are. Talking about hardware design, one major question is emerging: is there a “perfect size” for each of us depending on our own personal usage, or does one size fits all? If you are interested in a detailed answer, read Hubert’s blog post on My Life Scoop where we have been publishing in depth articles for the past few months:

Add to myYahoo!Sony might have suffered the worst hack attack in history on its PlayStation Network in late April, but that doesn’t mean it’s had much of an affect on its PlayStation 3 business. According to Industry Gamers (subscription required), PS3 sales are up 14 percent year-over-year boosted by a strong selection of software titles including first-party inFAMOUS 2. That’s great news because the PS3 is just more or less 4 million units behind the Xbox 360 in global sales to date.
In addition, Sony’s Jack Tretton says that the PSN attack was a wake-up call for the company to be more vigilant in what is actually going on and that 90% (about 70 million) of PSN users have returned to the network after the attacks. What say you? Did you defect to the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live during the PSN outage or did you hang in there, read a book, go play in the park and patiently await PSN’s return?
Either way, it’s good news all around for PlayStation fans and Sony’s head honchos. Sales are up, gamers are still happy; everybody wins.
