obsolete

Prototype Microsoft display could make 3D glasses obsolete The current crop of 3D TVs are pretty neat, I guess, but they all share a common dealbreaker: those stupid glasses. SeaMicro server can hold 512 Intel Atom processors

SeaMicro's latest server architecture breaks new ground as it can now hold a whopping 512 Intel Atom processors in a 10U rack mount space, where it is hoped that this move will reduce data center power and space requirements by up to a whopping 75%. Known as the new SM10000 server, it merges the aforementioned 512 Intel Atom processors, Gbit and 10-Gbit Ethernet, alongside software for management and load-balancing into an integrated package which can be dropped into any data center or application. The main reason they are concentrating on the Intel Atom processor is due to it being 3.2 times more efficient compared to x86-bsed processors when it comes to how much work it can do for the amount of power it uses. Anything that helps save power is a winner in our book, assuming there aren't too many negative tradeoffs.

3M monitor detects 20 points simultaneously

3M monitor detects 20 points simultaneously

3M does not just roll out Post It Notes, as the company recently paraded its 22" touch-sensitive monitor which is capable of detecting up to 20 points simultaneously at InfoComm 2010. This 3M model known as M2256PW comes with a projected capacitive touch panel and a trio of capacitive chips for detection purposes, featuring a response time of no longer than 6ms alongside a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050 pixels. Expect this to hit the market with a price point of $1,500, where it will most probably target enterprise markets and not the home user environment.

iGrill makes summer more enjoyable with iPod dock

iGrill makes summer more enjoyable with iPod dock

Throw in an iPod dock and you have a higher chance of selling your product - or is that the case? Well, there is no harm in checking out the iGrill as this uniquely modern grill not only helps churn out great tasting meat and sausages (if prepared by a decent chef beforehand), it also comes with an iPod dock that lets you enjoy your favorite tunes over its integrated speakers while you're busy reducing the hunger levels in your household. Of course, it can also work with other audio devices due to additioanl in-line audio support. The propane tank is used for the grill segment (duh) while a quartet of AA batteries will help power the speakers of this $130 device.

iPed runs on Android 2.1 OS

The Apple iPad has certainly done very well for itself worldwide since its launch, and that has sparked off a slew of clones from many manufacturers, especially those from China. The iPed you see here is also known by its model number, M16, although this model won't shoot any bullets. Retailing for $300 a pop, it will run on either Windows CE or the Android OS. In this case, it is powered by Android 2.1 as you can see in the video here. Features include a 1GHz ARM Cortex A processor, a 10.2" display at 1,024 x 600 resolution, 256MB RAM, 1GB internal flash memory, Wi-Fi connectivity and an integrated webcam. We're waiting for the FCC to approve this...
