A report by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Japan has stated that Japanese spent a total of 1.899 billion hours tlaking on the phone for the entire year of 2007, which is a 4.5% increase over the previous year. This is also the first time in Japanese history where total time of calls made from cell phones exceeded those made from landlines. Another record that was broken was the 6.2% increase in cell phone subscriptions over the previous period that surpassed 100 million, yet another first. Logically speaking, the Japanese ought to surpass the 1.899 billion hours this year - do you think that is an achievable figure?

Asus isn't only content with taking over the world of netbooks, but is attempting to make a name for itself in the nettop arena as well. The new Eee Top (also known as the Eee Monitor) will come in 15.6" and 19" flavors, featuring Linux as the operating platform of choice and Intel's 1.6GHz Atom processor. Priced at approximately $450, this is cheaper than the speculated $500 price point earlier on. It would be interesting to see how Asus' new Eee Top line is able to make an impact in desktop sales - will it eat into other manufacturers' bottom lines, or is it a niche market by itself?

I'm pretty sure some of you have come across colleagues who seem to be oblivious to their own body odor, but here is a device known as Zero Privacy that is able to keep tabs on nauseating smell from the armpits. The dock is able to sense when a deodorant stick is removed, keeping track of just how long it remains outside while transmitting that information onto the Internet for everyone to view. This data shows visitors the days and how long a deodorant has been applied. Pretty pointless, and it might not help you in your quest to snag dates if you keep on forgetting to apply deodorant either, but definitely something different in the face of new computers, netbooks and PMPs. Nothing like a little pressure to help you stay socially acceptable, eh?

Battlestar Galactica fans are definitely going to dig this PC case mod which has been given a laser-cut treatment to convey the spirit of the series onto a computer's exterior in the most obvious manner possible. If the Medallion itself is jaw-dropping to you, that's because it was painstakingly laser cut in separate layers and pieces, followed by a glueing session with red LEDs located behind to illuminate it. Proving that it plays better than it looks, this Battlestar Galactica PC case holds the following within :-

The weekend is over, but that doesn't mean you drag a long face to the office on Monday. Here is the Beer Phone that will definitely act as an incentive for you to see through the week at work so that you can unwind at your favorite watering hole at the next weekend. The numbers are all located at the base, and good thing they left out the rotary dial. I must say, speaking into this is pretty weird looking and could likely affect your increment for the year as the boss might think you're actually horsing around instead of being productive. The Beer Phone will retail for $11.19 and makes for a great 2009 April Fool's gift.

Parents, brace your wallets. Fisher-Price has officially introduced the Elmo Live! toy that will certainly cause quite a stir this holiday season. Elmo Live! first debuted at the New York Toy Fair earlier this February, and is tipped to follow its predecessors in being a hot ticket item for Christmas. This Elmo toy appears to be speaking naturally with its mouth opening and closing as words spill out just like his Sesame Street counterpart. In addition, his mannerisms are spot on, featuring a head that bobs while he speaks. Not only that, Fisher-Price has included the appropriate body language such as leg crossing and arm waving. In a nutshell, “Elmo Live! delivers a rich play experience that is engaging and interactive. While the level of technology and reality is truly innovative, Fisher-Price hasn't forgotten that the people who really need to be wowed are the preschoolers who adore Elmo. It's as close to being with Elmo in the fur as any toy has ever been!” Set aside $59.99 in order to not disappoint your kid(s).
