Following the release of CyanogenMod 9 on the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, the CyanogenMod team is now releasing CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) to almost all Galaxy S3 variants in the U.S. Of course, this will exempt Verizon’s version which unfortunately has a locked bootloader – much to the dismay of a few Verizon users. Earlier this week, Verizon announced a Galaxy S3 Developer Edition that will have an unlocked bootloader, but for a steep full retail price of $600.
Now that CM9 is now available on the Galaxy S3 units from Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile, it’s important to note that the ROM isn?t that stable yet, considering the fact that it is the RC1 phase. So, if you’re going to get the custom ROM, expect a couple of glitches here and there. You can get CyanogenMod 9 on your device here. And in case you missed our review of the Galaxy S3, feel free to check it out here.

Add to myYahoo! While we know that Apple is really tight on security when it comes to its operating systems and App Store, it looks like they’ve still got some work to do. According to reports online, a Russian developer discovered a way to bypass Apple’s in-app purchases to allow users to install in-app content for free. The process can be done in three simple steps on any iOS device and doesn’t even require a jailbreak to function. We won’t go into too much detail about what happens, but you can check out the video demonstration above. The method has also been confirmed to work by the folks over at 9to5Mac though we don’t know how long it will stay working. Let’s hope Apple fixes this problem before app developers are robbed of their hard-earned money.

Four days ago, we reported that AT&T’s version of the Samsung Galaxy Note would be receiving the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update the day after, and here we are with word which is far more inclusive – the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note that will be on the receiving end of the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update. This might not amount to much for the majority of owners who have already received their Ice Cream Sandwich treat, but at least the rest of the world will finally be able to play catch up.
Those who lived in Germany and proudly tote around their Galaxy Notes were the first in the world to report the availability of the Android 4.0.4 update, but apparently this particular Over The Air (OTA) update has arrived on the shores of the other regions like a bunch of South East Asian countries. Expect this XXLRG update to come with its fair share of bug fixes, in addition to the ability to unlock using your signature via the S Pen, a new restart button and better looking icons. It seems that the updated version of the Galaxy Note will also receive Pop-up Play, something that was only spotted on the Samsung Galaxy S3 exclusively.

The brilliant Stephen Hawking certainly knows what he is talking about when it comes to physics, and do imagine just how much more he is able to achieve if he were to be fully healthy? I guess that is a rhetorical question, and do appreciate his immense contribution to the world of science. Those who suffer from various diseases or have physical conditions that restrict one’s movement to just the eyes, can finally be able to use their eyes to control a computer, even if the kind of parts used amount to just $35 thereabouts. The system is sensitive enough that under testing circumstances, test subjects managed to score within 20% of an able-bodied person right after a mere 10 minutes of practice.
This particular tracker will rely on a couple of video console cameras in addition to a pair of eyeglasses that require to be calibrated. After the calibration process, it is more or less be able to track the pupils in a precise manner, letting one control a cursor or move a paddle in the game of Pong. You can also “click” using the eye-mouse by winking, while there are other more precise adjustments which can calculate gaze depth. Interesting – hopefully the system will be miniaturized enough and come in an affordable package should it be commercialized.

The rumor mill surrounding Apple’s iPhone 5 seems to be working overtime lately, and here we are with word that China is now offering pre-orders for the iPhone 5, at least on China’s largest e-commerce platform known as Taobao. The pre-order page also comes complete with mock-up pictures, not to mention the purported technical specifications. There are whispers that the iPhone 5 will roll out on August 7th later next month, although Apple has naturally kept the release date a secret. Other sources claim that the next generation iPhone will come with a larger display compared to its predecessors, not to mention a souped up version of Siri.
Sellers on Taobao, which is part of the Alibaba Group, do ask for a deposit of 1,000 yuan ($160) for the new handset, with one seller known as Dahai9988 prefers to play it safe – asking for a full payment right from the get go. I do wonder who is desperate enough to pony up 6,999 yuan ($1,100) first though, as this is not a small amount that we are talking about here. These sellers want to pick up the iPhone 5 in Hong Kong or in the US before sending them over to mainland China.

We have just received the most recent indication that the Samsung Galaxy S3 that was just announced to come in a Garnet Red color is not the last – which also means it that there will be other colors coming your way. Since yesterday, the good people over at AT&T have already made it known that from July 15th onwards, the mobile carrier will start to receive pre-orders for the Garnet Red Samsung Galaxy S3. This would go some way in keeping the Marble White and Pebble Blue Galaxy S3s company around the world.
Samsung did drop a hint that they might just be working on other colored variants in the future, where a Samsung UK spokesperson did make a mention concerning Pocket-lint?s inquiry that touched on other color schemes, saying, ?We will be announcing potential colour variants in due course.? I guess when you take the same route that Nintendo has always done with their Game Boys and DS Lites, you should not go wrong at all. After all, people like choice, don’t they?

Verizon Wireless has just introduced the first game subscription app for Android, calling it GameTanium which is said to offer unlimited game play. Exent?s GameTanium will play nice not only on smartphones, but tablets as well, and GameTanium will remain as an exclusive only to Verizon Wireless customers and no one else. You will be able to gain access to over 100 of the best Android smartphone games with a choice of more than 50 tablet games, ranging from favorites like Doodle God to Fruit Ninja and World of Goo. The asking price for its monthly fee? We are looking at just $5.99 per device, which is rather reasonable if you spend plenty of time gaming on your smartphone or tablet, and just want to try out whatever comes out.
In the long run, if you only concentrate on one or two games per year, then it might not make too much economical sense to subscribe to GameTanium, as you would end up paying more for the option of being able to play so many games, and yet not exercising them. You would need to have a strong mind on what you want to play for the year ahead to skip GameTanium, but otherwise, if you are one who flits with the wind and whatever comes by, it does seem to be worth a shot. Nokia has decided to take its new Transport application out of beta and place it on the Windows Phone marketplace. If you’re unfamiliar with Nokia Transport, it helps you get from Point A to Point B using public transportation. It gives you multiple routes to choose from and allows you to view earlier and later departures once your route has been chosen.
The app comes with some new features now that it is out of the beta stages such as routes/departures in more than 100 cities and non-scheduled instructions in over 450. Another important feature is the ability to pin all of your important destinations to your Lumia home screen.
Nokia Transport 2.1.0.0 is now available on the Windows Phone Marketplace, but may have not come to your region yet as there could be a 1-2 day delay. If you see version 1.2.0.0 of Nokia Transport, that is the Beta. Have you already downloaded Nokia Transport? If so let us know what you think in the comments section below.
