If you’ve got Facebook on your Android phone, you probably would have noticed the notification to update the app on your phone today. Well, for those of you who haven’t yet – there’s a new version available now and it brings a bunch of new features to make your Facebook experience on Android better. The app now supports the use of your front facing camera, a new messaging feature that lets you switch between conversations, include friends of friends, share bigger photos and see who’s available, various bug fixes, security improvement and faster app login and navigation.
Unfortunately for those of you on Android 2.1 or earlier – this new update won’t be for you. Facebook has decided to make the app for Froyo (Android 2.2) and later. For those of you who are eligible for the update, head over to the Google Play Store to grab it now.

If there’s one disadvantage about shopping online it has to be the fact that you have to wait for what you want. Even though it’s so convenient to just buy what you want from the comfort of your own home, you usually have to spend a day or two (or sometimes even weeks) just waiting for the package to be delivered to your doorstep. And let’s not forget about the shenanigans that couriers pull off from time to time. However, it looks like Amazon might be coming up with a plan to change all that (for itself).

If you’ve been asking for Timeline on the Facebook pages of your mobile device, then today’s your lucky day. It seems that Facebook has started to deploy its Timeline functionality to pages on the mobile platform this week. One Australian fellow sent a screenshot of Timeline on his mobile device, as you can see above. And judging from the looks of it, the design now features a cover photo, detailed information in the “About” section, new icons on the page, and larger Like button, particularly on the iPhone app.
Also, as noted by Inside Facebook, some pages on the mobile web version have smaller Like buttons due to the Message button. It’s important to note that Timeline for personal profiles was already launched by Facebook a long time ago. Timeline for pages on mobile devices, on the other hand, has taken more time to be available. Facebook users will probably find this update nifty, since adding a cover photo and a detailed page description to profile pages will give users a better idea as to what that specific page is all about.

Earlier this week we reported that Apple’s products were removed from the EPEAT’s green product list due to different directions the Cupertino company were taking with their electronics. Well, it looks like their situation has reversed. According to reports online, all of Apple’s eligible products are now back on EPEAT’s list. Apple was hit with an “eco-backlash” when their products were removed, and it looks like they’ve changed their minds about being inconsistent with EPEAT’s requirements. Talk about a quick turnaround.
Regardless of Apple’s stance when it comes to being environmental-friendly or not – I doubt it would have done much to affect its sales. Nokia has very green phones yet they haven’t seen the same amount of success that Apple has had over the past few years. How many of you care about how green a product is before you decide to purchase it?

Just like Microsoft did with Windows 8, it looks like they’re going to give us a more in-depth look at what they’re going to do with the next version of Office (codenamed Office 15). Today the company launched the Office Next Blog. The site will be written by the team behind Microsoft Office and will let us know the improvements they’ve made, why they did it and what sort of feedback influenced their decisions. Sounds like a pretty good idea, seeing how well the Windows 8 blog was done.
We still haven’t got a clue what the Office 15 is going to bring, but the launch of this blog corroborates with rumors about its official announcement next week. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted. Check out the Office Next Blog via the source link below.

Video game publisher Capcom announced last month that it will be installing a Resident Evil restaurant in Shibuya, Tokyo this month of July. As mentioned before, the restaurant is expected to open today, July 13, at eleven in the morning. Well, the Resident Evil-themed restaurant, now called Biohazard Cafe and Grill, is now officially open for the public. The restaurant features Resident Evil-themed food, props, and lots of dancing girls, as noted by Kotaku.
But probably what’s so interesting about the Biohazard Cafe and Grill is that it has a life-size monument of Tyrant designed by the Toei Company. Using 3D projection mapping technology, the Tyrant statue will come to life to freak you out. The staff, also known as S.T.A.R.S ANGELIQUE, will then shoot at the the seemingly-live Tyrant figure to simulate a real Resident Evil experience. However, the restaurant will be open for only a year since it’s a limited-time only establishment. So, if you’re heading to Tokyo this weekend, the Biohazard Cafe and Grill is definitely one place to visit.

Bicycle locks are pretty standard accessories to have if you own a bicycle, and in terms of design – they haven’t really changed over the years. Well, some folks have come up with an interesting concept lock that they think can work better than what we already have. Called the Pedal Lock, it is basically what its name implies: a bicycle lock that doubles up as pedals for your mode of transportation.

Dictionaries often include example sentences on them to make learning more fun and easy. Today, Google is deploying the same feature to its Google Translate service. Now, Google Translate users will have the option to view sample sentences by clicking the example sentence icon located at the left-hand text box of Google Translate. The feature will prove to be handy since sample sentences will provide more context to the words that we want to learn more about.
While it is nice to see how Google Translate has evolved through the years, it’s important to note that the product is far from being perfect. “Did you know that more than 5000 new words are created each year? At Google we?re always curious about new words from around the world, from all languages, and we think one of the best ways to understand and make sense of new words is by observing them in their natural habitat. Our latest feature does just that by providing you with example sentences taken from fresh new stories around the web,” Google said.

Yahoo is putting all the blame on its Yahoo! Contributor Network for exposing more than 450,000 credentials on Wednesday this week. According to the Internet giant, its Yahoo! Contributor Network, formerly known as Associated Content, did not require any strong passwords, so it’s considerably easy for hackers to breach the website. Today, Yahoo is announcing that it has already deployed the much needed security measures and enhanced our underlying security controls to prevent further damage. Yahoo acquired Associated Content a few years ago. Hackers responsible for the deed have previously said that the data breach was intended to be a wake-up call for Yahoo. Check out Yahoo’s official statement after the break. (more…)
