Neo Geo X retails for $130 as standalone device

Flying solo might not sound tantalizing to some, but others thrive on charting their very own path. Well, the Neo Geo X which we talked about at the end of last month was said to come with a $199 price point, although that would be the deluxe version which comes with a docking station. Folks who are on a tight budget (after you have set aside some dollars for your iPhone 5 fund, of course) will appreciate the fact that there is a more affordable solo version of the Neo Geo X which is priced to please to the tune of $130 a pop, although the manufacturer has yet to release additional details concerning this handheld console?s launch date.

We do know it will come with a 4.3? display as well as other hardware specifications that accompanied the $199 model sans extra accessories, of course. Will it make it in time for the December holiday season? That remains to be seen. This would be a good time to practice the virtue of patience though.

Microsoft Xbox 3D-projected games detailed

Video games have certainly come a long way since they were announced to the world a few decades ago. We have definitely made the jump from standard issue controllers (which of today, look nothing like the original that had just a couple of buttons at best) to motion controlled gaming, even using your entire body like the Microsoft Kinect as the controller itself. Well, a Microsoft patent recently detailed an immersive video games display system which is capable of projecting images of the title’s environment around a player’s room. The whole idea behind this is to extend graphics beyond the edges of a TV to “make the experience more realistic”, making it sound as though this is the IMAX version of video games.

There is no timeframe placed on when such a particular device would be released, but assuming something like this rolls off the assembly line, does it mean that you would be performing a living room makeover soon? After all, the current set up with bric-a-brac all over the place is hardly conducive for an immersive gaming experience.

Turn your sleep into music with a new software

Each of us has a different set of sleep patterns. Sleep patterns usually comprise of our physical positions as well as heart beat and breathing rates, while we sleep. Scientists at the University of Helsinki have now developed a software which can turn your sleep patterns into music.

The idea sounds exciting in that each of us essentially has a unique sleeping pattern, so the corresponding music for it would also be unique. In order to record the sleeping patterns of a person, a Beddit sensor has to be placed under his/her mattress. This sensor comes with internet connectivity and once it has collected the relevant data, it uploads that data to Sleep Musicalization website. (more…)

Nexi the robot helps researchers understand human
trust

If someone asked you to clearly state why or why not do you trust a person, it can be a very difficult question. Trust, and the reason why we trust, are both very subjective measures. HumanS trust for different reasons, in different circumstances. And researchers have tried hard to pin a few definite sets of gestures or cues which affect human trust.

Researchers from Northeastern University and MIT Media Lab initially tried to find out such silent cues which are perceived as untrustworthy by humans. They performed an experiment which involved 86 students to converse with each other, either face-to-face or through a web chat session. These conversations were recorded as videos so as to keep track of the body language of the participants. Another similar experiment followed this. (more…)

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 gets voice calling
capability

Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1Just when you thought that the Samsung Galaxy Note or its successor were the largest phones ever put in your pocket, think again. Some enterprising folks over at XDA Developers have decided to make sure your pockets are ripped to a larger size than ever before, thanks to the introduction of voice calling capability in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Granted, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is not the newest tablet in the market, and neither does it fall under the phablet category, but there is nothing quite like a little bit of tweaking on the software front to open up new frontiers never imagined before.

Just as how there are many roads to Rome, there are also several installation methods where you can choose from, with each of these being based on a different ROM. As long as your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs on the newest stock Ice Cream Sandwich ROM and derivatives, CyanogenMod9, or CyanogenMod 10, you?re good to go. There are some issues though, although these were reported not to happen too often, that is, it is best to run on 2G in order to enjoy hassle-free calls. Restrictions are also in place, since this mod applies only for folks who own the 3G-enabled Galaxy Tab 10.1, otherwise known as the GT-P7500.

Android zips past 500 million activations

At the end of last year, we do know that more than 700,000 Android-powered devices were activated on a daily basis, and that had certainly helped Google achieve the 500 million activation mark for Android as of today. After all, who can resist names such as Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean, considering how those tend to ?activate? your sweet tooth as well?

Of course, the daily number of activations has nearly doubled as well since December last year, where we are looking at approximately 1.3 million smartphones and/or tablets activated each time the earth makes a full revolution around the sun. Will the number of Android activations actually reduce after Apple?s alleged iPhone 5 announcement happens later today? Perhaps, but I guess there will always be fans on either camp who will always do their best to increase the respective user base in the long run.
