Garmin targets yachts and powerboats

Garmin targets yachts and powerboats Garmin thinks that both yachts and powerboats ought not to do without a GPS device of some sort, releasing a new line of large screen multi-function displays (MFDs) in the GPSMAP 5X15 and GPSMAP 4X10 series. These MFDs are not only pretty to look at, they're powerful as well. The 5X15 series come with a 15" XGA sunlight readable touchscreen display, making navigating through its menu system a snap thanks to virtual buttons that save space in lieu of standard buttons. The GPSMAP 5015 and 5215 comes with an enhanced worldwide satellite imagery basemap and pre-loaded with highly detailed U.S. coastal charts and Explorer Charts for the Bahamas respectively. As for the GPSMAP 4X10, it features a smaller 10.4" SVGA sunlight readable display equipped with a standard alphanumeric keypad and a row of soft keys for data input. No word on pricing details at this point in time, but both the 5X15 and 4X10 series will be available in March next year. [Press Release]

Garmin announces GHP 10 MAS

The GHP 10 MAS (Marine Autopilot System) from Garmin is a new generation of the TR-1 Gladiator autopilot, engaging itself when you need it while disengaged when you don't. Built to be one of the most reliable and dummy-proof helm controls in the market, the GHP 10 MAS targets hydraulically-steered boats, featuring Shadow Drive, a patented capability that automatically disengages the autopilot if the helm is turned, allowing for quick manual maneuvers. The moment you re-establish a steady course, the autopilot will automatically re-engage. Light Force Therapy

Light Force Therapy I wonder why they call it the Light Force Therapy - is it just me or do old Jedi Masters age gracefully? Anyways, the Light Force Therapy device doesn't depend on your midi-chlorian count to keep you young, instead it uses LEDs to produce UV and laser ray-free, low-level infrared light that helps elevate muscle tissue temperature and increasing local blood circulation temporaritly. These are supposed to help relieve pain and relax muscles, providing a soothing warmth for a brief respite from minor muscle and joint pain, arthritis and muscle spasms. In addition, you get half a dozen user-controlled settings to suit your current situation. Do you think this is worth $129?

HTC Needle looks sharp

HTC Needle looks sharp The HTC Needle from Ted Baker looks very familiar, and there is no reason not to. It is actually the HTC Touch in the flesh, although it has been given designer treatment from UK designer label Ted Baker. This version is based on the O2's XDA Nova variant and will ship with special, exclusive wallpapers as well as start-up animation. I must say, I'm totally head over heels with this color scheme. Perhaps HTC should just get Ted Baker to redesign their entire range - now that'd be a whole lot of drool-worthy phones to look forward to.

All new VW concept

All new VW concept

This Volkswagen concept is surely too far ahead in the future - it boasts just three seats and an aerodynamic body that is guaranteed to turn heads, although setting your pulse racing is another matter. The most interesting aspect would be its detachable trunk that can be wheeled away as a suitcase - great for those who love traveling. The transparent surface wrapping the entire exterior of the car is actually an OLED display that acts as an information screen for the driver as well as passengers within - hopefully it won't distract the driver from his/her more immediate task of, well, driving.

Iqua 603 SUN headset

Iqua 603 SUN headset Orange is currently having a promotion that will be valid to Orange-only customers for the next three months, and the Iqua 603 SUN Bluetooth headset is one of them. Touted to be the first solar powered Bluetooth headset in the world, unfortunately enough it doesn't rank too high up there in terms of aesthetics despite dropping the unsightly ear hook. Weighing 14 grams, a full charge gets you up to 200 hours of standby time and 9 hours of talk time in complete darkness - now the second claim is definitely worth verifying. It retails for £49.99.

Chinese Trojan on Maxtor hard drives

Chinese Trojan on Maxtor hard drives Word has it that a Maxtor hard drive has been infected with a Trojan by a manufacturing sub-contractor in China, freaking out Taiwanese authorities who recently discovered samples of the infected kit. The pre-installed Trojan known as AutoRun-AH was discovered by Kaspersky Labs on Maxtor 3200 external hard drives sold in the Netherlands, although Seagate (who owns Maxtor) did express their skepticism about the reports initially. I guess it is time to get their heads out of the sand and face the issue head on. For those who purchase the Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200 drives after August 2007, you could be a victim of AutoRun-AH - so keep your guard up.
