The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 has been taken out for a spin by our friends at Photography BLOG, and here's their summary in a nutshell.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 is a marginally better camera than the TZ3, with improved image quality, an excellent LCD screen, useful Intelligent Auto mode for beginners, and the attraction of HD video. It's a shame that Panasonic haven't added any manual exposure modes, as with the recent DMC-LZ10 model, which is the only Panasonic compact camera to offer any control over aperture and shutter speed (apart from the ageing DMC-LX2). If you don't mind sacrificing half the focal length, the 5x zoom DMC-LZ10 is an excellent alternative. But if you're happy to accept the purely point-and-shoot nature of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5, that unchanged combination of huge focal range and compact dimensions is still too liberating to ignore.
All in all, this is a pretty decent point-and-shoot camera that targets beginners, so shutterbugs who want to take that next step up must look elsewhere.

Put those old, unwanted bottles to good use with the LED LightCap 200. All you need to do is remove the cap and replace it with the said device, turning it into an instantaneous solar-powered lantern. I suppose if you have bottles of various colors, it will definitely add a whole lot of character to the surrounding area. The LightCap 200 will retail for $20, and tipping the scales at a mere 2.6oz makes this the ideal camping companion. Batteries are a pain to lug around after all, so why not rely on good ol' solar power?

Asus' new DRW-20B1S/B1ST DVD rewriter is the human equivalent of a superhuman - it is more than able to handle anything thrown at it with gutso. In addition to supporting a myriad of formats including 12X DVD-RAM write, 20X DVD+/-R and 12X DVD+/-R, this DVD rewriter also boasts Optimal Tuning Strategy technology that automatically adjusts burning for optimum disc backups. In addition, you get an E-Green Engine for added energy savings, which is always a good thing if you have a few hundred computers running in your company. The latter mode is activated whenever the drive remains idle for 2.5 minutes, helping decrease CO2 emissions and the rapid decrease of trees around the globe. Dunno how much it will cost though.

Sanyo has announced a couple more projectors for the masses - the Sanyo LP-XC55 and the LP-XC50. Both of them will feature Sanyo's own Active Maintenance Filter (AMF) technology which makes filter changing a snap. In addition, you will get a sturdy and durable Security Bar which helps keep your projector safe by allowing thick security wires up to 11 millimeters. Equipped with a 7-watt speaker, either projector would be able to run just fine (with sound in your presentation) in a small room without the need for external speakers. No idea on how much these will cost, but they will hit Japan on July 11th this year.

AT&T has just announced that it will be the first carrier to offer the recently released BlackBerry Bold 9000 this summer on an exclusive basis. Seems as though AT&T gets all the best phones so far, and their crown jewel is certainly the iPhone. Subscribers on T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon need not fret though, as after summer the Bold will probably make its debut on the mentioned carriers, giving AT&T a few months to milk it for all it is worth. So far word on the street has it that the handset will come with a 2-year contract and a $300 price tag.

Creative of Singapore has rolled out the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1, the world's first USB 2.0 audio solution in the world which offers a speedy upgrade option for either the PC or notebook. Definitely beats all those on-board audio found in most machines these days, so make sure you have a decent pair of speakers or headphones to go along with it. X-Fi technology boasts full cinematic surround sound, while hardcore gamers will definitely be able to enjoy Creative's own EAX ADVANCED HD effects for a higher degree of realism. As for me, while sound is important in a game, I prefer the most basic sounds in favor of a higher frame rate. In Quake 3, I used to play in r_picmip 5 as it certainly helps with the aim and dodging pesky plasma balls. It will retail for approximately $70 when released later this month.

Talk about bringing immersion in video games to the next level - the jDome concept, patented by John Nilsson, comes in the form of a semi-transparent dome which requires a projector to project an image on it. This will provide you with 180-degrees of gaming action, but the $125 to $150 price tag is not the final story since you'll need a projector for it to work first, not to mention fooling around with the game's field of view setting so that you won't end up suffering from a fake morning sickness after a couple of minutes' of gaming. The prototype itself retails for $6,000, saving you a whole lot of trouble at the cost of a huge wad of dough.
