Samsung HDTVs getting updated version of the

The PlayStation 3 and Google TV recently got an updated version of Netflix?s Watch Instantly interface and now Samsung HDTVs compatible with Samsung Apps seem to be getting the latest interface too. According to reports, the latest interface appeared after a firmware upgrade on a UN46C6500 LCD HDTV and it now offers the ability to search through Netflix?s catalog directly on the device, though you still won?t be able to add DVDs to your queue. Since there isn?t any official word on this just yet, it might be a test phase that Netflix is going through or a slow rollout, so don?t expect to see it appear right away.

DIY your own telepresence robot for $500

We?d all love to have our own personal robot avatar to buy scones for us, but our bank account doesn?t seem in favor of that. If you?re in the same boat but have some fancy DIY skills, you could solve the issue yourself, which is what someone out there decided to do. Johnny Chung Lee, who is well known for some Wiimote and Kinect hacking, has come up with a video chat robot for about $500. All he needed was an iRobot Create and a netbook with Skype, both of which can be purchased for about $250 each. The control software was written by him and the instructions were posted online, so you?ll be able to come up with one of these for yourself. The netbook was mounted on a platform, bringing it closer to human height and a fish-eye lens was added to the webcam, giving you a better view of what is going on. VTech InnoPad tablet for kids

There are many folks who are worried about exposing kids to technology too early, since it might be bringing them up the wrong way, but the folks over at VTech don?t have any issues with that as the company has just unveiled the InnoPad, which is a 5-inch touchscreen tablet device aimed at kids aged 4 to 9. It features a tilt-sensor for gaming control, microphone and headphone jack, SD card slot and USB connectivity. All the delicate innards of this device are housed in a ?kid-tough? casing that hopefully will allow it to survive the large amounts of torture that young kids tend to dish out. This tablet will mainly rely on learning cartridges to provide content, but there is also support for digital downloads for folks who prefer to sync it with a computer. The InnoPad will be shipping this fall for $79.99 and each title is priced at $24.99.
