Mozilla Firefox to automatically block unwanted

Don’t you hate it when you install a program, and it unknowingly installs a browser add-on in your browser for you even though you didn’t select the option to? (Skype, I’m looking at you). Well if you’re a Firefox user, we’ve got some great news. Mozilla has announced that Firefox add-ons won’t simply end their way onto your browser without your approval.
Each time the browser starts up, if it detects a new add-on that’s been installed by a program, it will disable the add-on and present the user with a dialog box asking them if they would like to keep the add-on disabled or give Firefox permission enable it. This way, Mozilla ensures that unauthorized, privacy-invading add-ons are going to be an issue of the past. The add-on blocking feature will debut next week with Firefox Aurora beta, so it’ll be awhile more before it makes it to the stable build.

We’ve got a new patent to discuss today, and this time it’s not some a filing for another fancy cellphone airbag. As if the intense heat wave and drought over in the sunny state of Texas wasn’t enough for its citizens to deal with, it looks like the state has to deal with yet another menace ? air conditioner thieves. It’s been reported that there has been an increase in the number of air conditioner thefts this summer, and while it may sound like nothing more than a terrible prank, it’s more serious than it seems. While it probably wasn’t the intention of the thieves to cause anybody harm, their actions might have even contributed to the death of an elderly Dallas woman last month.

While Netflix is a service that offers video content for people of all ages, it doesn’t exactly have the most user-friendly interface ? for people who are young enough to be considered kids. However, it looks like Netflix is attempting to address the issue. Some Netflix members have reported that they now have a “Just For Kids” tab in the web UI of the service which takes them to a Kids-friendly version of Netflix.

HTC’s powerhouse Android phone, the HTC Sensation has been reported to be receiving a tasty Android treat today. The OTA update for Android 2.3.4 is supposedly rolling out to owners of the phone in Europe, which means non-carrier branded versions of the device. The update will bump up the phone’s software to version 1.45.401.2 but most importantly it will give the phone Android 2.3.4 which brings some new features to the device.
Android 2.3.4 is said to provide the updated Google Talk (with video calling), WiFi improvements, a boosted battery life, GPS tweaks and the usual assortment of bug fixes. The update is 41MB in size so it shouldn’t take too long to download. If you haven’t received the update notification yet, head to Menu > About Phone > Software Update > Check Now. As usual, back up your phone before attempting any updates. Let us know how it goes for you. Hopefully this means the update for the HTC Sensation 4G won’t be too far away for folks in the US.

After being on sale for so many months in everywhere but the US, the wait is finally over. The long-awaited sequel to the Samsung Galaxy S will be announced in two weeks time. Samsung has just sent out invitations to the media for “a major product announcement in New York.” While the invitation didn’t state that it was going to be the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S 2, it doesn’t look like the company is trying to hide the fact either.
The background of the invitation clearly shows stars in space (the galaxy), and the number 2 in big, bold Roman numerals at the bottom say everything. What we do know so far is that the phone will be arriving at each carrier under a different guise, like they did with the first Galaxy S, though the differences between all the phones are yet to be confirmed. August 29th is the day to look out for, stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted.

Remember back in June we reported on the topic of spam books taking over Amazon’s Kindle book store? Well, just in case you forgot, spammers have re-publishing books (both out of copyright and those still under copyright) as their own titles; indirectly stealing money from many self-published authors who have worked hard to write them in the first place.
After months of these scams going on, it seems like Amazon is finally cracking down on those spammers. According to an email that a spammer received recently, here’s what Amazon had to say:
