Mozilla has officially launched the first beta of Thunderbird 3 today, codenamed Lanikai. It’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux, so compatibility shouldn’t be much of an issue. The goal of this release is to smooth out the problems created by upgrading the Gecko engine that powers the program, and this is the first semi-stable release of Mozilla’s email client to use Gecko 1.9.2. The final version of Thunderbird 3.1 is expected to be available sometime in June, though the date hasn’t been set in stone yet, so there is still a possibility the release date to be changed.

Ever wanted to jailbreak your iPhone, but thought that fiddling with all that software felt like Voodoo magic? Well, with the iDongle, you won’t have to go through the tedious process of jailbreaking your iPhone. The device can jailbreak an iPhone, and more importantly, reboot a jailbroken iPhone on the go. The only downside of this device is that it currently only works on the iPhone 3GS running firmware 3.1.2, and iPod touch 2G/3G. There are only about a dozen or so of these devices available at the moment, but the developer is busy in the process of raising money to ramp up production. If you’re drooling over this at the moment, check out the video on it after the jump.

Accessory makers are busy churning out various bags and pouches for Apple’s upcoming iPad, but the ModulR casing does stand out compared to the others, especially since it allows you to include a wall mount. Judging by its name, you can expect the ModulR to offer various add-ons to it, such as the wall mount, a kickstand to keep the iPad upright, as well as a shoulder strap accessory and headrest accessory. It’s scheduled to go on sale in the summer of 2010, though there isn’t any pricing information just yet.

Have you ever been in a scenario where you google for an item online, find it at a store nearby, fight through traffic to get there, only to find out that it’s out of stock? Well, Google is looking to help you tackle that issue, with its latest “In stock nearby” feature for mobile devices. When searching for products sold by participating retailers (Best Buy, Sears, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery barn and West Elm), if there is a blue dot next to the item, you can click on the “In stock nearby” link to check if the item is “In stock” or has “Limited Availability” near you (as long as you’ve enabled My Location or manually specified your location). It’s currently available for iPhone, webOS and Android-powered devices, though there isn’t any mention of Windows Mobile in the official post, is this a sign of things to come? If you’re a retailer and want to participate in this program, Google has a form that you can fill out to be considered.
