It looks like Tivo is set to introduce Tivo Premiere Elite, its latest (and greatest) Tivo set top box. It would be an all digital device, which means that analog cable channels won’t be supported. Actually, it’s faster to enumerate what would work with it: Digital Cable (via CableCards + decoder), or Verizon’s FiOS. As I said, analog cable, ATSC, satellite and AT&T U-Verse won’t be supported.
The specifications are interesting: there are four digital tuners, 2TB of storage (about 300hrs of HD recording, versus 150hrs for the premiere XL), THX sound, 1080p video output. The Tivo Premiere Elite is also compatible with control systems from RTI, Creston and Control4. Of course, all the partners such as Netflix, Hulu and more are also in the box.
The release date could be as early as September. At this point, there is no official word on pricing, but enthusiasts expect this to cost around $500, at most. That would be $200 more than the Tivo XL. What do you think? [FCC filing + slides]

Redbox, the movie and video game rental service has officially announced its integration with Foursquare, expanding its potential customer base to over 10 million registered Foursquare users. To commemorate the partnership, Redbox will be launching a 10 Days of Deals campaign where Foursquare users who check in at Redbox kiosks will be able to unlock daily discount codes that range from $0.10 to $1.00. The discount codes will be usable for kiosk transactions that day.
With 68% of the US population living within a 5-minute drive of a Redbox kiosk, these deals will no doubt benefit a lot of people. Once the promotions are over, I wonder if users will bother to continue checking in if they don’t gain any benefits. How many of you use Redbox for your video game/DVD rental purposes?

V-MODA, a company that’s known for manufacturing high-end headsets, has just announced the launch of a new pair of headphones called the Crossfade M-80. Looking like an accessory that came straight out of a futuristic sci-fi movie, the Crossfade M-80 is a successor to the legendary Crossfade LP. Featuring a 53% smaller design, it is touted to be as rugged as its looks.
It features a virtually indestructible steel frame, STEELFLEX headband, interchangeable brushed metal shields, durable microfiber suede and replaceable memory foam cushions. It also comes with two Kevlar-reinforced microphone cables for universal smartphone compatibility and an exoskeleton carrying case for those times when you’re taking it out on the road.
The headphones are said to produce a pure balanced sound with no artificial sound processing, and instead relies on acoustic techniques. So if you’re looking for something bass heavy, these aren’t the headphones for you. The V-MODA Crossfade M-80 is available now for $230.00 at V-MODA.com and selected retailers worldwide including the Radio Shack. Video after the break:

I certainly never checked that box!
Facebook has been known to “go Rambo” on user privacy, but it seems that LinkedIn may just be following the same path. It seems that by default, accounts are setup to agree to this: “LinkedIn my use my name, photo in social advertising”. I just checked my account (opened a long time ago), and that’s true (at least, in my case).
To be honest, I’m not quite sure when this has started and I learned about it after Sophos, posted on their “naked security” blog. Frankly, I find this unbelievable. It’s not that I mind being in a cool ad myself, but LinkedIn should never have checked that box for me.
I have since turned this option OFF, and if you don’t want to appear on a LinkedIn “social ad”, you may want to check your privacy settings. It’s in Settings>Account>Privacy Controls>Manage Social Advertising. What do you think of this? Did LinkedIn go too far, or don’t you consider this information to be private?

Add to myYahoo! When buying a case enthusiasts must balance between cost, aesthetics, and build quality. Normally you can only have two of these three things but on rare occasions companies produce a case that has all three properties in one case. NZXT has given enthusiast one of these rare cases with the NZXT Source 210 Elite which at $50 combines all three of these traits into one case. Benchmark Reviews will see if the Source 210 Elite is really the holy grail of mainstream cases or will this perfect looking case fall apart when scrutinized?
