Android can be pretty much adapted to work on any sort of device ? from phones to tablets and even car stereos, there’s one more to add to the list of devices ? universal remotes. Conspin, a home theater and electronics manufacturer has merged an Android tablet with a universal remote to create a smart universal remote. With 3 different interfaces- RF (RF4CE), IR, and WiFi, the remote is capable up controlling up to 50 different compatible devices (over 10,000 devices are supported). In addition to controlling your home theater, the fact that the remote runs Android means you’ll be able to make use of Android apps ? this means custom remote apps designed for Android devices can also be used on the remote for a more intuitive way to interface with the devices when the default remote doesn’t cut it. And if there’s nothing to watch on TV, you could always load up games or surf the internet with the tablet itself. The Conspin Andi-One URC is available now for $349.99. Promo video after the break:

RIM has just announced that they will be releasing an update to their Traffic app over the next 24 hours. The update will bring BlackBerry Traffic up to version 2.0.0.1749 and will give users the following features: a choice to select between 2 routes to a destination, as well as a traffic view that displays predicted traffic conditions for each route, the ability to add preset destinations (i.e. office or home), the ability to get an ETA to destinations from within the contacts list, or newly entered addresses, an easy way to share ETAs through SMS, emails, or PIN messages. RIM has also made the app better by analyzing anonymously collected data from users running the app as well as historical traffic data for more accurate ETAs. Look for the update on the BlackBerry App World.

WinRumors has gotten wind of whispers that Microsoft could be exploring the possibility of having flexible hardware specifications where its Windows Phone 7 platform is concerned, and this could result in different hardware companies rolling out more affordable Windows Phone devices. Of course, with varying hardware on different handsets, you could end up with a software fragmentation problem that Android is currently experiencing – some games which require a high level of processing muscle can only be played on certain high-end phones, leaving the rest of the Android community in the dark. Is Microsoft willing to follow such a route? Apparently, an announcement on the matter might be made as early as the company?s MIX11 conference sometime later this week. Of course, there are pros and cons to this situation, where the added flexibility lets device manufacturers use cheaper components in order to make owning a Windows Phone a whole lot more affordable. What do you think – should Microsoft maintain a high standard, or can they relax a bit?

The carrot and stick is a common reward system that is employed by many organizations, and even down to families. The same applies to how some games work, and Kiip, a new player in the in-game ad startup market has recently received $4 million in funding to kickstart its concept of rewarding players with branded coupons and product samples whenever they manage to successfully complete specific in-game tasks. This achievement-based ad will see action across 15 mobile titles from today onwards, and whenever you earn an achievement in a Kiip-powered game, a pop-up window will request you for an e-mail address, where it will then send a coupon or free sample offer without having to go through a pesky account sign-up step. There is a limited number of rewards which can be provided in each game, and in order to keep you interested in the game, they will introduce a “variable reward schedule” so that you won’t expect a reward every single time you play. Just to get an idea on the kind of coupons you’ll get, advertisers on Kiip include Carl?s Jr., Dr. Pepper, GNC, Homerun.com, popchips, Sephora and vitaminwater. Do you think that this is the way to move forward in casual games?

With 3D cameras becoming more accessible to everybody ? you can expect a lot more 3D movies to start popping up in the future, especially in the indie movie scene.

NeatStitch of Israel has come up with an automated port closure device known as NeatClose, where it also picked up both FDA and European approvals in the process. Just what is the NeatClose exactly? Well, it is marketed to be an alternative to manual closure, making it a speedy and efficient manner to help hospitals save time and money by lowering intraoperative costs. This system lets surgeons produce a watertight seal within seconds, and it goes without saying that this would go a long way in aiding the recovery of a patient, never mind that one does not have Wolverine’s healing factor. When inside the operating cavity, the surgeon is able to squeeze the handle leavers in order to release a couple of blunt needle guides, where said guides are specially positioned in a perpendicular manner to the port plane. With the activation button pressed, it will release the needles from the guide, via the tissue and back to the NeatClose cartridge. Once the system is pulled outside the port, you can be sure that a safe and eff icient air tight seal is created, hence aiding the recovery of a patient for surgery quickly. Now we’re still waiting for a painless method without the need for anaesthesia, but that’s a long way in coming.
