Logitech says no to Revue 2

Logitech RevueIf you’re hoping for a follow up device to the original Revue Google TV set top box from Logitech, you’re out of luck ? because it’s not going to happen. At least not in the near future. At a meeting with investors yesterday, Logitech’s CEO Guerrino De Luca called the Revue a mistake, and that it will be putting an end to the device by letting supplies of it run out this quarter. And no, they won’t be developing any more follow ups to the Revue either.

De Luca basically called Google TV far from ready and despite the Honeycomb update; it’s still far from being able to deliver the polished experience that it is expected to. Wow, it looks like Google has lost yet another partner in its ever-challenging battle to bring Android into the living room. If things don’t pick up for the company, I see Google axing yet another one of its products. What do you think of Google TV so far? Has it been up to your expectations?

Philips beehive concept does away with processed
sugar

We all know that taking processed sugar is a big no-no when it comes to staying healthy, and if you absolutely must have your sweet, sugary rush, why not take the more natural route by taking honey? Unfortunately, honey can be rather expensive if you are talking about the high grade, organic ones – leading Philips to think out of the proverbial box with their latest beehive concept. Known as the urban beehive, it will comprise of an outside flower pot that has a bee entryway right above it. The glass container itself is full of honeycomb frames that intend to tempt passing bees inside to make a home.

When you pull on the bottom of the hive, a smoke actuator will kick in to calm the bees down so that you will be able to open the cover, or to collect honey for your personal use. Sounds right, since it would be pretty mad to get those little buzzers angry, especially when you’re trapped in an urban setting like a small apartment. Currently a concept, I am not quite sure whether the Philips urban beehive can really take off if realized.

AirDrop pulls water from thin air, uses science
instead of magic

We know that there is moisture around us, and the higher the humidity level, the more water, in theory, the AirDrop is capable of “pulling” out of virtually thin air in order to make irrigation a possibility no matter how dry it is out there. Sounds like the perfect idea to implement when it is nigh impossible to get water from any other source, making it a no-brainer for the AirDrop to pick up the 2011 James Dyson Award. The brain behind the AirDrop belongs to Edward Linacre of Melbourne, Australia, where it intends to make farming a possibility even in the most arid of conditions.

How does the AirDrop work? Some might think it involves voodoo magic, but actually, it will just play around with the principles of physics, where a turbine located at the top of the AirDrop will pull in warm air and move it underground. During the air’s descent, it will pass through a copper coil, where it will then cool down to the temperature of the surrounding soil, resulting in all the moisture in the air to be condensed into drops of water. Collected water will be sent to an underground reservoir, where it can then be pumped straight to the roots of crops courtesy of a low-pressure drip irrigation system.

Users will also be able to rent/buy movies from the site, and will find it easier to check up on their friends and perform tasks like redeeming Marketplace codes.

The Xbox 360 Dashboard update which was leaked in video footage and then officially announced in October, will also introduce the Metro UI, feature improved Kinect integration, and introduce Bing searching, YouTube videos and Live TV broadcasts to the console. Still no word on when it will officially roll out to everybody, but it shouldn’t be too long now.

Energica electric motorcycle looks really mean

Electric vehicles are starting to gain a whole lot of traction, since they do their bit in helping reduce the amount of greenhouse emissions, not to mention being far easier on your wallet at the end of the day simply because you need not fork out an arm and a leg each time you “fill ‘er up”. While electric cars have been in the limelight most of the time, there are also two wheelers that take on the zero gas challenge, and CRP Racing’s latest model, the Energica, that will boast of an all-electric powertrain that has 100kW of power ready and raring to go.

Amazon updates its Appstore to version 2.0

Amazon Appstore 2.0Some of you would have probably noticed that Amazon has started pushing out updates for its Appstore today. It looks like the company is preparing for its launch of the Kindle Fire Android tablet which is arriving next week. The new update brings the app up to version 2.0, introduces a sleeker, new UI with a gray and orange color scheme, and the usual bug fixes.

The update also introduces in-app purchases (one time purchases and subscriptions) as well as parental controls for in-app purchases, the ability to review permissions on detail pages prior to purchasing apps, faster downloads and shorter load times. If you haven’t received the update notification, or you don’t have the Amazon Appstore, you can manually download it by heading over to Amazon’s Appstore website.

Ballistic protects your Samsung Galaxy S II, Epic
4G Touch

Do you happen to own two of the newer Android-powered smartphones out there, the Samsung Galaxy S II or the Epic 4G Touch? If you have answered in the affirmative and have yet to provide adequate protection to either model, you might want to check out and see what Ballistic has on offer for you. The Ballistic Shell Gel case has just been released for both smartphones, where it will not add on to the bulk of the handset while offering superior protection. The outermost layer is made of soft Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) for shock absorption, where said layer is co-molded to the middle layer that is made of tough impact resistant polycarbonate. When you combine the qualities of both layers, you end up with a pretty formidable defense against everyday knocks, scratches and drops, how about that?

Strong Ballistic Corners are also thrown into the mix to absorb the shock of a drop. If you are interested, the case will set you back by $35 a pop – which is not too much to ask considering how much you have already spent to bring the device home, no?

Knock off smart cover only costs $6

Knock off Smart CoverOwn an iPad 2 and love the smart cover, but don’t see yourself spending the $39 needed just to get one? Well, the next time in China, you might want to look out for a Smart Cover knock off from a company named PBPEI. The folks over at micdigi.com recently got their hands on the imitation iPad 2 accessory, and were surprised at how well it worked. In fact, the knock off even seemed to be made from the same material as the original.

Differences in appearance are subtle and unnoticeable by the untrained eye (the imitation even has the words “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China” which is essentially true). It unlocks the iPad 2, keeps it propped up against its folds as intended, and shields the display when not in use ? just like the original Smart Cover. The main difference? The knock off only costs about $6 ? a fraction of the original’s price.

This Smart Cover probably won’t ever be sold in the US, but I’m sure you can find ways for somebody to import it for you. Head to the source link to check out more comparison photographs of the Smart Cover knock off.

PlayStation Card time to stimulate the economy

Want to do your bit for Uncle Sam and make sure enough money flows around the market? I guess the only way would be to spend, spend and spend, but in these times of belt tightening and austerity measures, you might want to be more careful with where your hard earned dollars end up. Well, Sony has been working with Capital One to create a credit card which will have rewards that target PlayStation fans. Needless to say, this new credit card is aptly known as the PlayStation Card, where all your purchases will earn points – including 10X the number of points for each purchase that you make on the PlayStation Network.
