Add to myYahoo! Here’s a neat little gadget that might come in handy if you need to throw away CDs or DVDs with data on it. A short swipe with the $12.99 DiscEraser will make the disc unreadable. Add to myYahoo! Here’s a (quite technical) guide that describes how you’ll add some cool functionality to your Apple TV - the possibility to playback Xvid and DivX files. By the way, I wonder why the big companies never learn. Stuff like DRM and leaving out support for popular file formats like Xvid to force users into [...]

What's wrong with Acer, that's what I want to know? Most of us here in Shiny Towers are the proud owners of a budget laptop by the country's most popular manufacturer. OK, so they specialise in "affordable" laptops, but just because something doesn't cost as much as a VAIO, it doesn't mean that it can't still see to all your various internetting and iPodding needs. But if you're ashamed of your portable PC, you can always hide the badge under this Ultrasuede Laptop Skin. That's what Shiny reader Layla did. Before, she was ashamed to be seen with her "beat up ole Acer" but, she tells us, "I la la love it now!" I like Layla, she sounds perky - but Layla, you shouldn't be ashamed of your "crappy brand" Acer. Embrace the computery goodness.

Add to myYahoo!Google has launched a service providing free directory assistance calls, and the features offered will spur some serious competition in the 411 market. Developed countries all over the world are slowly but surely drawing up guidelines on cutting down greenhouse gas emissions and doing their best to keep to it, but somehow electric utility companies seem to have kept a dirty little secret up until now - Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6). The function of this gas is to insulate high voltage equipment, but one pound of it has the same impact on global warming as 11 tons of CO2. The GasFindIR-LW from FLIR Systems is capable to detecting even minute traces of SF6 in the air thanks to its specially developed infrared camera. In addition to SF6 detection, the GasFindIR-LW also detects 20 other environmentally harmful gasses. It'd be fun to use this in the office and catch those silent farter with evidence to boot.
