After taking flak from the Department of Justice last week for attempting to acquire T-Mobile, AT&T has finally filed a response to the DOJ’s lawsuit today. According to CNET’s report, AT&T claimed in its response that the DOJ fails to understand the benefits of the deal and isn’t painting an accurate picture of the competitive environment. AT&T then reiterated its previously mentioned points about how the acquisition would give AT&T more spectrum and let the carrier provide wireless broadband access to more people, and so on ? nothing we haven’t heard before.

We all know that Google gives different names of desserts to each new major version of Android, and the next version of Android that will be released after Ice Cream Sandwich (which is slated to arrive later this year) is going to be called Jelly Bean, according to This Is My Next’s trusted source. If you’re wondering why they’re using such a peculiar name, well it’s because Google uses dessert names in alphabetical order to nickname Android’s releases, and since the version before Jelly Bean will start with I, J comes next… and there’s not a whole lot of desserts that begin with J to choose from.

If you have an app on your smartphone that supposedly cures your skin problems, we’ve got some bad news for you: you’ve been duped. The FTC has recently fined two developers for creating “acne cure” apps for Android and iOS. Called “AcneApp” and “Acne Pwner”, these apps claimed to be able to cure your acne by using blue and red light therapy.
The two separate apps that were available on the Android Market and Apple App Store have since been pulled and their developers fined. AcnePwner, which was on sale for $0.99 on the Android Market was downloaded approximately 3,300 times, and the developer was fined $1,700. AcneApp was on sale at the Apple App Store for $1.99 had approximately 11,600 downloads, and its developer fined $14,294. Ouch. I guess that’s what you get for tricking people into believe your lies ? and charging them for it.

Great news, Netflix users. After all the bad press that the video on demand service has been getting recently, it looks like Netflix is finally doing something that consumers approve of. The latest version of the Netflix app for Android that just hit the Android Market has been updated to work on all Android devices that are running Froyo (2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3). I wonder what happened to the Qualcomm exclusivity.
Either way, you no longer have to resort to running that hacked APK that you can’t update through the Android Market and have no official support for. Head over to the Android Market to get your hands on the latest version of Netflix now. Let us know in the comments if it works for your phone.

It looks like HTC has something stylish up its sleeves, headed our way. The Taiwanese mobile device manufacturer has just sent out invites for an event that’s happening on September 20th in New York City. No additional details were given in the invitation, but judging by the design and the tagline, it’s probably got something to do with the HTC Bliss/Rhyme that’s surfaced often over the past few weeks.
Other likely candidates include the HTC Vigor ? the world’s first 720p display phone that was recently spotted at the FCC. It could also be a brand new HTC device that’s unheard of, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough. The 20th is only a couple of weeks away, keep your eyes peeled and we’ll keep you updated here as well.

First off we might be reading too much into this mysterious memo that recently surfaced over at the Sprint stores but it sure looks like we’ll be seeing the iPhone 5 arriving at Sprint this October. The folks over at SprintFeed recently got their hands on a photograph of an internal memo informing its employees of a black out. Here’s what the memo had to say:
“Due to the possibility of a major phone launch in October we are blacking out September 30th through October 15th“
Feel the shivers run down your spine yet? We sure did. When you take into account that most of the major phones for Sprint are on their way or have already been released there’s no other “major phone” that could be coming in the carrier’s direction. Of course, it could be some super secret, unannounced phone that isn’t the iPhone 5, but we doubt it ? especially after all the recent rumors about the Sprint iPhone 5. What do you think?

GreenReflex has launched a new ultraportable electric scooter called MyWay. It is a foldable transportation device that is powered by an electric motor and a Li-Ion battery. Its main advantage is being extremely compact (110 x 24 x 37cm, folded) and at 12kg, it is relatively light, thanks to an aluminum construction. It has a range of 30km (18.6 miles) on flat surfaces and your mileage will vary depending on usage conditions. Interestingly if you are using it on a campus or a warehouse it’s probably more than fine.
