Vivienne Tam and HP team up to launch a designer
UMPC

hp lallap.JPG
New York Fashion week is in full swing (check out Shiny Style if you don't believe me) and we have news of a new laptop! Yes, once again fashion and technology have merged to create a hugely covetable UMPC. This year HP have teamed up with Vivienne Tam and designed a gorgeous Chinese Red laptop for you to feast your eyes on. It has a 10.2-inch screen and is decorated with peonies (which I'm told symbolize the female heart). That's about all I can tell you though as they've released NO SPECS at all. It's all about fusing fashion and style with tech, and apparently important stuff such as hard drive capac

iPod nano-chromatic: more colors, 8GB and 16GB.

iPod nano-chromatic: more colors, 8GB and 16GB.

After weeks of rumors, the new $149 (and up) iPod nano is out. It comes with a new aluminum body and an accelerometer, so that it can detect when you're watching a movie in landscape mode and rotate the display accordingly. Apple has also introduced "shake to shuffle", wich is a convenient way for going to a random song, without having to press a button or look at the screen. I wonder if an upcoming update would have real "gestures"... Finally, it features "Genius" or what Apple calles a "virtual DJ" - Genius will try to analyze your tastes and propose songs that you might like (that might also boost sales). I bet that Apple is becoming an accelerometer "power-buyer", just like for Flash memory. Someone at Samsung was telling me how powerful Apple's purchase department had become in the flash memory industry. iPod nano page

iTunes 8 - HD TV programmes and added 'Genius'

itunes8_22.jpg
When an iTunes update makes it to one of the top three announcements, you know it's been a quiet Apple conference. However, it did, mainly due to the much speculated 'Genius' functionality.

New iPod headphones - an acknowledgement that
theirs are rubbish

ipod earphones.jpg
Good news for those that love the iPhone headphones - you can now get a similar pair to the iPhone's for the new Nano and Touch. For those still in the dark, that means there's a little button on the chord which allows you to play, pause and fast forward your music, which once you've used, is very difficult to give up.

New iPod Touch - slimmer, and more like the
iPhone

ipodletsrock57.jpg
The iPod Touch gets less of a refresh than the Nano. It's thinner than before, and there's a few tweaks to keep people shopping. Like the iPhone there's now a volume control on the side, and a speaker. But be warned, it's for 'casual use only'. Expect some irritating bus journeys as a result.
