Penguins make technology more adorable, as proved by that so many adorable pieces of technology look like penguins. Take the USB Penguin mouse, which honestly looks like Cartman in a penguin suit. Despite having the novelty shape, it's still ergonomically constructed, with 800 dpi resolution, two buttons and scroll wheel. $15. [Camille]

Add to myYahoo! The turn me ON: upside down lamp by Sylvie van de Loo is exciting for its goofy whimsy, because it doesn't generate much heat so you can place it pretty much anywhere (it uses super-bright LEDs like a good little lamp should) and also, to turn it on, you turn it over. It's not totally new to have a lamp that you fondle in order to activate, but it doesn't sport any mercury so you can feel good about your tech. It looks like a mouse pointer designed by a smurf, but I mean that in the nicest possible way. [Camille]

Add to myYahoo!Sure, you could spend a lot of money and inject a tracking chip into your dog, which will annoy the dog and become obsolete at an alarming speed anyhow, or, you could just hang a PetSafe Micro I.D. Rescue Collar for Dogs around his neck. It contains a little flash drive that you can conveniently update with your pet's name and contact information, and then anybody who finds him can plug the drive into their computer and get the information. While this is probably something you could do with any old cheap flash drive you have lying around (I picked up a 512 meg card from the clearance bin for £2 and wondered if I'd paid too much) this is already nicely put together and at $40, spares you the bother. Now if they can just make one small enough for cats, and stylish enough for my cats. Maybe with pearls. [Camille]
