Mini VCR SV-1000 MPEG4 TV recorder

Mini VCR SV-1000 MPEG4 TV recorder
Ever wished you could record your favorite sitcom episode from the TV and watch it on your portable media player of choice at a later time? That is now possible with the StorVision SV-1000 Mini VCR. This tiny device must be hooked up to your TV or satellite box via A/V composite cables before any recording is possible. The Mini VCR will automatically store recorded shows in MPEG 4 format on either Memory Stick Pro Duo or CF/Microdrive memory cards, although other flash cards can be used by plugging in an optional adapter. The Mini VCR supports both NTSC and PAL standards, but it doesn't do High-Definition. The integrated encoder records in QVGA for the Sony PSP and VGA for other platforms. I wonder what copyright watchdogs have to say about this £95.00 device.

Konica Minolta Bizhub concept

Konica Minolta Bizhub concept
I wonder what was the Konica Minolta staff smoking when they came up with this eye-popping Bizhub, a prototype of your entire deskspace that lumps virtually every single office tool you'll ever need within reach. The Bizhub concept comes with a scanner, printer, copier, fax machine, an LCD display, a DVD player, a lamp to keep you company during those late nights, and check this out - an expresso machine to jolt you awake on Monday mornings. The choice of plant and flower motifs plastered all over is giving me a headache by just looking at it. We doubt offices will pick this up, unless the manager has a queer eye for artistic office furniture.

Nintendo DS turns into guitar simulator

Nintendo DS turns into guitar simulatorThe Nintendo DS truly introduced a brand new method of playing games and virtually caught everyone by surprise despite the lack of processing and graphical muscle of the Sony PSP. Hardware sales of the DS have been constantly topping charts all over the world, and it is games like M-06 that make the DS such a fun console to play around with. M-06 transforms your DS into a guitar simulator and comes in two modes to cater for beginners and advanced players. The upper display is used to show the type of notes you have to hit along with the necessary motions, while the touchscreen is used to pick the correct note and strum accordingly. This Japanese title might not make it across the Pacific, but I'm sure you can always import one. Let us have a minute of silence for Lik-Sang.

Gigabeat V60 now out in Japan

Gigabeat V60 now out in Japan

The Toshiba Gigabeat V30 was the company's first foray into the portable media player market, and obviously they did not hit a home run as most first timers fail before they soar (remember your first date?). The good folk at Toshiba decided to return and have another go by revamping the device and calling it the Gigabeat V60, denoting the 60GB hard drive within. Additional features include a 1Seg Digital TV tuner and some recording capabilities, although the 3.5" 65k color QVGA TFT display still sports a 320 x 240 resolution which is not high enough for a screen that size. The Gigabeat V60 retails for approximately $510 in Japan, with no word on whether it will be exported Stateside.

CES 2007 Pick: UTV Player

CES 2007 Pick: UTV Player
The UTV player from Ubicod has been picked as the winner in the Home Networking category for the CES 2007 Innovation Awards, and this comes as no surprise as the UTV player is the perfect platform for emerging IPTV applications, blending both High Power IP STB with a High-Definition decoder. This means you get a home-networked PVR device, and Electronic Program Guide, a video phone, movie, and MP3 player all rolled into a single device. All you need to do is to plug it via HomePlug and you're good to go. There's just something about the clean cut design that makes the UTV player so appealing.

iTurbo charges iPod with a single AA

iTurbo charges iPod with a single AAWhat happens when the world around you crumbles, and you're left with nothing but your precious iPod? Unfortunately, even the iPod has given up the ghost due to the lack of electrical nutrition, and since your pet hamster working the emergency dynamo has scuttled off somewhere and you need your daily fix of Justin Timberlake, there is but one savior - the iTurbo iPod charger. This device uses a single AA battery and is compatible with 5G iPod videos and the iPod nano. Choose from black or white colors. The iTurbo will cost somewhere between $29.99 to $34.99 and will be available from November 15 onwards. Logically speaking the iTurbo iPod charger won't be as effective as Elecom's 9V solution.

Water-powered batteries developed

Water-powered batteries developedIt seems that presidents of Japanese companies are a pretty innovative bunch - just look at Nintendo and their legacy. Susumu Suzuki, president of Total System Conductor, does not just survey his business empire from the top of a skyscraper but gets his hands down and dirty as well to invent water-powered batteries which can muster an electric current that is as powerful as that of a standard manganese dioxide battery. Since these batteries are cheap to produce and can be recycled a few times over, they make the perfect alternative to current environmentally-destructive batteries.
