Desktop toys are a welcome distraction at work, and the WowWee Chatterbot would make a good candidate for your next purchase. Available in Devil/Angel, Dog, and the Fairy Godfather models, the $49.99 Chatterbot are USB-powered animated computer accessories which are able to tell jokes, dialog (no idea up to what level) with you as well as comment on whatever you're typing on the computer at the moment. It functions well with email, calendar and instant messaging applications among others, boasting a tiny speaker too. Apparently the trigger responsiveness is not up to par at the moment, so hopefully WowWee will be able to roll out an update in the near future.

Word on the street has it that the first 65nm GPU chip equipped Xbox 360, known as Jasper, will be out in August. This is an improvement to the current generation of 360s, also known as the Falcon, which features a 65nm CPU but has a larger GPU. There will be two main advantages with the release of the Jasper - you will get cooler and quieter Xbox 360s as you continue gaming. Will the Xbox 360 run out of steam by then, and is this a case of a little too late? After all, the tide is beginning to swing in the PS3's favor.

Microsoft is putting more resources and effort in its Fone+ program which will see the needy get their fair share of smartphones as a computing platform. I'm rather skeptical about this - just how much work can you actually get done on a smartphone, even when compared to a low cost computer like the Eee PC? I suppose the folks at Microsoft have a palantir which I do not know about, since they believe that the prevalence of cell phones and wireless networks would make third world countries a practical target. Apparently the Fone+ also comes with a docking station which can be connected to TVs for better viewing. No idea on when the final product will be realized, but it shouldn't be too soon. The PSP Headset Kit for Skype is now available in the US, allowing you to do more than just game and surf the Web with your PSP. This follows Japan's release which happened a few days before, and all functionality is retained. Features include street-style earphones, an adjustable boom mic, and a remote control for managing volume without having to fiddle with the PSP itself. Just make sure you have version 3.9 of the PSP firmware installed before you will be able to use the Skype headset. Not only can you use it for chatting with your friends over Skype, it also functions as a communicator in games. You ought to pay nothing more than $30 for this I believe.

Add to myYahoo! The Eiko egg broiler was designed to fit over the top of the boiling pot of water. It holds the egg in place and makes it easy to retrieve the egg when the egg is done cooking. The Eiko is shaped so that the egg hangs down in the boiling water and still allows the [...]

Add to myYahoo!By Evan Ackerman Poor goldfish. Nobody really respects their intelligence. They get kept in tiny little aquariums, fed occasionally, and otherwise ignored. But, they're capable of so much more, as this video shows. Three second memory? Think again. With the R2 Fish School, you can use simple operant conditioning and positive reinforcement to train your fish [...]
