This gadget, launched during CES 2007, adds the third dimension navigation to the regular mouse. In addition, you can rotate the virtual objects using the lateral buttons. Now, when you play a first person shooter you can eat or do whatever you want with the other hand because the 3D Game O? offers gamers a way to move forward, backward and sideways and jump, crouch, pitch, yaw, and roll without using the keyboard. Another neat application is to easily navigate in 3D in Google earth. You can buy the 3D Game O? on Sandio website for $79.99 or under the VisionTek XG6 brand at the traditional consumer electronics retailers.
(We already published about it, but I saw it live at GDC and had a demo by Sandio CEO.)
More info on the press release.

Add to myYahoo!I tested the Novint Falcon at GDC and I was quite impressed: this device allows the user to experience the force feedback and the three-dimensional touch of virtual objects. I tried the textured sphere touch, the baseball game where I could feel the ball?s impact in my virtual glove and the first person shooter (FPS) game where different weapons (like shotguns or machine guns) have different recoils. It will ship on June 18th ,2007 for $239 but you can preorder it now for $189 on Novint website. The trend at GDC is definitely to make the gaming experience ever closer to reality?

Add to myYahoo!LG are launching a monitor with the highest contrast ratio in the industry at 3000:1. For those of you who can't quite envisage what that means in actual terms, you'll get crisper, clearer and brighter moving images, dark on dark images are more distinguishable, 'perfect black' can be achieved and distortion is minimal which is great if you like your monitor to be an entertainment hub (or just plain old watching DVDs) as well as a standard desk item. The first set of monitors to get the 3000:1 contrast will be the 60 series and Vista widescreen models. Should be available within the next few weeks.

Add to myYahoo! As someone who isn't in proud possession of fine bathroom sealant, I find this powercaulk sealant gun very attractive in a 'coo, tools, must get and wield' way. Especially as its makers Black & Decker say even a novice can do a professional job with this gun. It has a consistent flow of caulk, a non drip tip and two speeds of application. Powered by four AA batteries - £29.99

Add to myYahoo!I have tried out dual LCD systems before from various manufacturers and they were cool but took up lots of space. A company called Woojin, which I have never heard of, has a really nifty take on a dual LCD display that has a 19” main screen and an 8.4” s...

Add to myYahoo!I was invited Wednesday at the Emotiv booth at GDC for a private demo of their prototype product that they are launching as a SDK (Software development Kit) for game developers. They will launch a consumer product (no information about it yet) next year. According to Emotiv technology, it is the first brain computer interface than can detect human conscious thoughts and non-conscious emotions, including those represented by brain activity patterns unique to a particular individual.
The main applications so far are 3D characters that reflects the player?s expressions (smiles, winks, see the photo) and the manipulation of virtual objects using the player?s thoughts to do so! I can see this so well in the Sims or Second Life, or applied to the user?s avatar in regular chatting services.
