LG launches Laundry Lounge

Getting your laundry done can be quite a therapeutic experience, especially at those DIY laundromats, where a good book or a charming stranger might just help you pass the time while your dirty clothes get cleaned. LG intends to change the way laundromats work with the introduction of the Laundry Lounge, which will offer customers a far more modern outlook and amenities – throwing in free Internet access as well as HDTVs so that you will feel more at home.

Motorola Wilder is tougher than usual

Most modern smartphones are lovely to look at, and they come in an extremely sleek design. But how many of those are capable of standing up to plenty of abuse, let alone the inadvertent drop to a concrete floor or other hard surfaces simply because you were careless but for a moment? Well, Motorola has decided to roll out a phone that is tougher than normal, but of course it won’t be able to hold a candle to Sonim’s XP3300 Force. We’re looking at the Motorola Wilder today, where it is splash- and dust-resistant, arriving in Italy for ?89 this month.

Features include a durable 2.8″ touchscreen display, social networking integration, a secondary notification screen, an integrated FM radio, a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a 3.5mm headset and a micro USB charger. Since a picture speaks a thousand words, you might as well get flooded with tomes after the jump with the Motorola Wilder presented in a video. [Press Release]

Opel One Euro electric car

Opel certainly knows how to make an impression at the 64th Frankfurt International Motor Show by debuting their all new battery-powered electric vehicle aptly dubbed as the One Euro. Now surely they do not mean that will be the price of the vehicle, but rather, it will be a sign of the solidarity displayed by members of the European Union. This particular concept vehicle will expand the horizons of electric mobility as well as propel Opel?s pioneering role in alternative propulsion systems. So far, we do know that the One Euro is capable of driving for 100 kilometers on just a single Euro, hitting a maximum speed of 120 km/h while tipping the scales at just 33% the weight of a modern small car.

Lil Wayne sets new iTunes sales record

Rapper Lil Wayne is never too far away from the limelight ever since he made it big just before the turn of the century, and I must say that this is one heavily tattoed rapper – with a rockin’ bod to boot! Well, having been in the ‘game’ like forever now, Lil Wayne’s 10th studio album actually managed to break the iTunes album sales record – achieving 345,000 copies thereabouts in just four days. Compare that to the 964,000 figure that Nielsen SoundScan compiled in a week, and you have a more than decent album (Tha Carter IV) flying off store shelves.

Translator app avoids miscommunication when
ordering food

Going for a holiday in some fancy, faraway country where the language is very, very different, and English is not widely spoken can be fun, although when it comes to ordering food at a restaurant, things might end up getting complicated – especially when you do not have a local to guide you through the nuances. Thank goodness for technology – this particular translator app is able to enable both smartphones and compatible portable devices to translate foreign-language food menus into the English language. Apart from not accidentally eating something you normally would not go near with a 10-foot pole, it comes in handy if you’re on a restricted diet.

According to Mireille “Mimi” Boutin, an associate professor in Purdue University’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, “You type in the menu listing and the application translates it automatically without talking to a server. It only takes a fraction of a second, you don’t need connection to the Internet and it won’t empty your battery.”

Just make sure that before you fly off to your destination, download a region- and language-specific configuration and database so that there is no need to rely on an (expensive) Internet connection when overseas. It currently works on the iPod touch, although it would be a simple matter to port it to the iPad and perhaps even the Android platform. Bon appetit!

Vestel delivers Android gaming to your living
room

Granted, if you want a true blue gaming experience in your living room, either you go with a desktop computer that has been rigged out, or you might want to settle for a home console instead. Games on the smartphone platform just do not quite make the cut IMHO, as they are more or less casual fodder to kill a few minutes of your time – epic gaming on smartphones are still far and few in between, which made me wonder how come Vestel intends to deliver Android games to your TV – is there something else they know that we don’t?

I suppose it is too early to judge whether Vestel’s offerings will be able to live up to expectations of hardcore gamers, but Vestel did describe their service to be “the world’s first all-you-can-eat Android TV game subscription service,” where GameTanium will enable Vestel Smart Box set-top box owners to be able to enjoy a slew of games which have been optimized for TV play – and no surprise here, your Android smartphone will then function as a controller.

At least Vestel figured out you might be getting an important phone call while you play, which is why they have paved the way for you to switch between your PC, smartphone, tablet or HDTV seamlessly, continuing where you last left off. [Press Release]

White HTC EVO 3D at RadioShack

We all know that the HTC EVO 3D was first introduced in RadioShack stores some weeks back, but if you do not take to a black colored version that seems to be far too businesslike, and would very much prefer a white model that reminds you of your beloved iPhone 3GS, then here is a snippet of good news – RadioShack will be offering an exclusive white HTC EVO 3D from tomorrow onwards. What kind of changes do you think a new color can make to the sales figures of a particular device? We know it did wonders when Nintendo toyed with variants in their handheld consoles since time immemorial, but how about smartphones? Would you prefer the white one which you can see in greater detail after the jump, or a purple colored version?

Tursion TS-102 pico projector or computer

Once in a while, we come across a cute little device that we are not too sure just how to categorize it. Let’s just say the Tursion TS-102 is one of those confounding moments – take a look at it, and most folks would say that this is another attempt to make a crack at the pico projector market, but it will never be able to end up as a commercial success. Well, you are half correct – as this is a pico projector that delivers 800 x 600 resolution at 20 lumens of brightness, shooting out a maximum image of 100″ in size.

Zippo LED Flashlight project

Don’t you just love how the ingenious human mind works? “Kipkay” had some spare time in his hands, not to mention a Zippo lighter that no longer works – hence transforming it into a high-powered LED flashlight for less than $5. This is definitely one of the ways to churn out something cool with old products instead of discarding them away to the recycling bin. Got to love the words “General Electric” engraved on the outside of the Zippo lighter – makes it all the more ironic, don’t you think so? Check out a video of it after the jump.
