Paper battery a reality

Paper battery a reality

Most of us think that batteries are made up of some metal chassis with liquid inside, but how about a battery made entirely out of plain copier paper? Sounds totally whacked out, but it is already been looked into with the idea of using carbon nanotubes on the paper itself to collect electric charge. The use of plain paper makes it more feasible and affordable when it comes to manufacturing larger devices. Literally paper-thin batteries in the future - now who would want to turn that down? Your electric vehicle out of juice? Just place a ream of paper underneath the hood and you're good to go.

VITAband digital ID bracelet

VITAband digital ID bracelet

The VITAband digital ID bracelet will boast a couple of key functions - it is capable of storing all your health records on it, offering first responders the luxury of accessing critical information in the event of an emergency. Apart from that, the VITAband digital ID bracelet also enables access to tap payment technology through a RFID chip, making certain more religious quarters worry about whether this could be the future mark of the beast. The bracelet itself will cost $39.90, where it will cost you $19.95 annually after that if you want to take advantage of services offered (especially cashless transactions using your wrist). Any takers?

Wireworld Platinum Starlight HDMI cable

Wireworld Platinum Starlight HDMI cable

Is one HDMI cable different from another? Purists would say yes, while a vast majority of you out there probably can't tell the difference in output (theoretically offering the same performance), so why bother busting out $1,000 for the Wireworld Platinum Starlight HDMI cable when you can always pick up regular HDMI cables that cost $!50 from Walmart instead? Sometimes, it makes us wonder whether good and common sense is clouded by the amount of money we have in our bank account.

ProDigits bionic fingers

ProDigits bionic fingers

The ProDigits bionic fingers goes one up (or is it five up with four fingers and a thumb) over a standard prosthesis, thanks to its ability to grab and pick up objects in a totally new manner? It can be controlled via myoelectric sensors which register muscle signals from the palm or the remnant finger, with the alternative of a pressure sensitive switch from a force resistive sensor. The ProDigits bionic fingers will offer an unprecedented degree of functionality for folks who wear them, and this is a step in the right direction towards Anakin's bionic arm.

Acer Liquid A1 starts shipping in UK

Acer Liquid A1 starts shipping in UK

Acer's maiden entry into the world of Android smartphones has resulted in the Liquid A1 being shipped in the UK, retailing for £339.99 and £328.99 and Expansys and Clove, respectively. With that kind of dough, you get a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 3.5" WVGA capacitive touchscreen display, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband (900/1900/2100) HSDPA, Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR connectivity alongside a 5-megapixel camera. The user interface itself has not undergone any major transformations by Acer, so you will probably have to find your way around a rather vanilla version of Android 1.6 Donut.
