Aleratec DVD/CD Shredder XC

Aleratec DVD/CD Shredder XC

The name Shredder has always been associated with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' nemesis, mainly due to the diet of cartoon in the era I grew up in, but as one enters adulthood, one will realize that shredders aren't out there to take over the world, but more likely cover up your tracks of documents. This time round, the Aleratec DVD/CD Shredder XC does what it says - shredding whatever optical discs that you own so that data within cannot be read or retrieved, attempting to do so would be placing yourself in the shoes of all the king's horses and his men in piecing Humpty Dumpty back together again. Expect the Aleratec DVD/CD Shredder XC to retail for $74.99.

No idea on pricing, but if you've got to ask, chances are you can't afford one.

Texas Instruments Brightboxe projector

Texas Instruments Brightboxe projector

Texas Instruments is the one behind the projector industry right from the very beginning, and they have now come up with the Brightboxe projector that targets gamers, where it can hook up to virtually any current game console despite being diminutive enough in size to qualify as a pico projector. You won't be able to enjoy your full HD games with this though, since it maxes out at 640 x 480 resolution, and you'll need to play in a relatively dark room due to its 500:1 contrast ratio. Features include the use of RGB LED lamps and the ability to throw images up to 100” diagonally. No word on availability, but it is tipped to retail for $199.

Fingerprint scanner fooled

Fingerprint scanner fooled

Lin Ring had a $14,600 surgical fingerprint switching procedure which managed to bypass security scanners at the airport, but sharp-eyed immigration officials managed to notice scars on her fingers before catching on onto her game. Apparently, prints from Ring's left hand were surgically implanted on her right, leading some of us more astute ones to ask the question as to why prints from both hands were not taken in the first place.

Aojie offers dirt cheap netbooks

Aojie offers dirt cheap netbooks

Netbooks are famous for their relatively low price points, but Aojie attempts to outprice them all with a couple of offerings that retail for a mere $146 and $160. The Aojie X100V and X100A will come with 10" displays each, accompanied by an 1.6GHz VIA C7-M processor for the X100V while the X100A is running on a beefier 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. Shared specifications include USB connectivity, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, 512MB RAM, a 4GB SSD, Wi-Fi connectivity and Windows XP as the operating system of choice. Guess the internal memory is the main reason as to why the prices are far below the $200 mark.

ASUS GeForce GT240 GDDR5 Video Card ENGT240

As enthusiasts, we're always interested in the latest monster video cards: the expensive, high-end products that blast through benchmarks and play all your games with buttery-smooth frame rates at the highest resolutions with all the settings maxed out- and sucking a not inconsiderable amount of electricity while doing so! But these products represent only a tiny fraction of the number of video cards sold; the low-to-mid-end cards comprise the bulk of the market. Besides, a GTX285 or Radeon 5870 isn't the ideal solution for every situation: considerations from a limited budget to building a small, quiet system come into play. NVIDIA has been filling out the low-middle end of their video card product line lately, and in this article Benchmark Reviews tests the ASUS ENGT240/DI/512MD5/A video card equipped with with NVIDIA's new GeForce GT240 GPU and 512M of GDDR5 memory.
