[CES 2012] Remember back in 2009 One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) announced that it would be introducing a low-cost tablet, the XO 3.0? Well the tablet was supposed to go in production in 2010, and then was announced as delayed last year to get better screens, and we still didn’t get to see them. However, it looks like 2012 is going to be the year the tablets are finally complete.
OLPC has announced that the XO tablet will be shown off at CES next week and will go into production after it is unveiled. The tablet will feature Marvell’s Armada PXA618 SOC, 512MB of RAM, an 8″ PixelQi 1024 x 768 display (LCD option also available) and will run on Android or OLPC’s own Sugar operating system (a customized version of Linux).
The tablet will be priced at $100 to keep it affordable ? but take not that regular consumers won’t be able to purchase the tablets individually, unless of course you’re the government of a developing country.

While 4G LTE connectivity is nice to have, not everybody needs it and wants to pay premium just to have it on their phones/tablets. Well for those of you who feel that way and are looking to get your hands on Motorola’s latest tablet, the Xyboard ? we’ve got some good news. The WiFi-only version of the tablet has gone up for pre-order on Motorola’s website.
The tablets all feature the same specs as the previously released Verizon DROID Xyboard tablets minus the LTE radios. The Xyboard 8.2 will be priced at $399.99 for 16GB and $499.99 for 32GB. The Xyboard 10.1 will cost $499.99 for the 16GB while the 32GB version will be $599.99 ? that’s about $200 less than what you would have to pay for 4G.
Thinking of picking one up? Be sure to read our review about the Xyboard 8.2 and Xyboard 10.1 first, and then head over to Motorola’s website to pre-order the tablet.

[CES 2012] After making an entry into the tablet market last year, it looks like Vizio is ready to take on a bigger market. According to a Finantial Times report, Vizio will be showing off two Windows 7 all-in-one computers and three notebooks at CES 2012. The computers are touted to feature sleek, aluminum-styled designs “that pay due homage to Apple’s MacBook and iMac products.”
Not many details were released about the computers, but we’re expected to see 24″ and 27″ all-in-one desktops; 14″ and 15.6″ ultrabooks; and a 15.6″ performance notebook. The computers will feature built-in subwoofers, a media remote and matching keyboards and mice. The computers are expected to be released in May 2012 in the US. Stay tuned for more details next week.
