Like the X1 this new model (R9-NBC-4WAK-GP) uses a unique body shape and a large central fan as the heart of its design. California is the economic engine of the US, and it is no surprise that yet another startup from Los Angeles County, California, has come up with the idea of selling energy harvested from the sun to users. This sounds normal, but it is literally an out-of-this-world plan, since it will provide the juice harvested from solar energy that is captured by solar panels which will orbit the planet. Plans for this idea are still under the theoretical stage and have yet to give birth fully, although they have targeted 2015 as the release date. Known as the Solaren project, electromagnetic waves will be used to transmit power to a receiving station back on earth, where the latter is located in Fresno County, California. Boffins expect the Solaren project to deliver up to 1,700 gigawatt-hours annually.

Microsoft has just sent out another reminder to its dear customers that the end date for support for Windows XP Service Pack 2 is looming, alongside other versions of the Windows operating system as well. Support for Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Client will officially end on July 13, 2010, and this reminder comes with a marketing twist as it reminds users to upgrade their systems to Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 by the stated cutoff date. Bear in mind that upgrades directly from Windows 2000 to Windows 7 are not officially supported, meaning if you fall under the Windows 2000 category, you will first need to make the jump to Windows XP before migrating to Windows 7, leaving Bill Gates laughing all the way to the bank.

Wow - talk about a convergence device! The Track Ball Mouse Numeric Keypad Hub will offer a slew of computer interconnected goodness, where your thumb will fondle the trackball as you control the cursor on the screen with it, while the numeric keypad ensures you are able to crunch those numbers with unprecedented ease and speed. No reason for this to come with a trackball, we figure, if it can also slide around as a mouse! You get a couple of USB 2.0 ports on the upper portion of the device as well to further enhance its connectivity. There is one drawback for the Track Ball Mouse Numeric Keypad Hub though - tihs $58 peripheral does not cater to southpaws.

Archos has further enhanced their lineup with the Archos 1 Vision entry-level device. You won't expect this to be an iPod touch killer - no sir, by all means it is meant to introduce you to the world of digital audio players - nothing more, nothing less. You get 4GB of storage space with this alongside a 1.5" display, coupled with voice recording capability, support for MP3, WMA. FLAC, WAV and APE formats, and up to 21 hours of continuous battery playback. Guess there is no video playback here so this won't qualify for the PMP category. At least it makes for a cheap purchase at 39.99 Euros a pop, and will most probably retail for the equivalent figure should it ever enter Stateside.

Lama Concepts have come up with a rather interesting idea of integrated LEDs in carpeting, where among the more practical aspects of it would be integrating it within an Airbus 350 with the LEDs pointing you the way to all emergency exits. Lama Concepts has larger plans than integrating such technology on airplane carpets though, as they aim to see this being used elsewhere in public and private spaces since they have the know-how to customize the amount and colors of the LED, the shape of the carpet, including the LED, for a truly stunning image.

Check out what the new designer Pause heater can do - it is not only extremely pleasing on your eyes with walnut as its construction material of choice, it also comes with a leather seat to provide it with an authentic “furniture” look. Apart from that, infrared technology is used to keep you nice and warm whenever the mercury starts to dip, while it is MP3 ready as well courtesy of its kinetic transducer enclosed within. Talk about getting the best of both worlds where convenience and quality converge. Too bad you can't impress family members with it this coming Christmas since it will be released only next month.

Just when you thought that funds in the Middle East were running dry, the YAS Hotel in Abu Dhabi stuns the world by boasting the world’s biggest LED project which can be controlled via remote device management (RDM) protocol. This 5-star complex comes with a curvilinear grid-shell which is covered with molre than 5,300 diamond-shaped steel panels, where they will also hold nearly 5,000 RGBW LED fixtures. It would be interesting to see the monthly power bill of the hotel though, and we sure hope this hotel contains elements of solar power as well in order to reduce its carbon footprint.

Forget about all those super exotics that you see in motor shows - this one takes a totally diferent approach where design convention is concerned, as this sports car is made out of wood. Yes sir, what you're driving could probably be the home of many birds once before. Christened as Maniwa, this wooden car is no slouch when it comes ot performance either, capable of hitting a maximum speed of 80km/h (around 50 mph) which should be OK for intra-city use, but definitely not meant to eat up asphalt along the freeway. $44,000 will net you the Maniwa as it is steered using a motorcycle-like handlebar. To keep things chic, the Maniwa also comes with gull wing doors for added style, while a stereo has been fitted to keep you entertained on the road. Amazingly enough, this 3-seater vehicle is road legal in Japan, and we wonder what would happen to it if a Yakuza rival there decides to torch your ride - it'll certainly be a whole lot easier compared to a standard vehicle, eh?
