Verizon has had its hands full with the launch of new tablets on their network recently ? namely the iPad 2 and the Motorola Xoom, but that doesn’t mean that they’ve forgotten about the Galaxy Tab. In fact, Big Red has just released an update that brings significant improvements to the tablet. These changes include: searching for WiFi hotspots no longer negatively affects battery life, access hyperlinks within email messages, send multiple name cards with the ?select all? feature, successfully open 5mb video attachments from email messages, Adobe Flash Player updated to version 10.1.95.2, and fixed time zone calendar setting ensures calendar events are accurate regardless of the time zone you are currently in. While it’s not Honeycomb for your tablet, it sure makes it a lot better. Head here for the instructions on how to update the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Canon sees the future, and it has 3D written all over it, which is why the Japanese company has decided to include 3D capabilities into their XF305 and XF300 professional camcorders thanks to a new firmware upgrade. This will include Canon?s 3D Assist Function that enables both camcorders to be set up easily for 3D HD video, not to mention an updated Scan Reverse function, Double Slot Recording for instantaneous backup, and the option to disable Relay Recording. With Canon?s 3D Assist Function, it paves the way to setup two XF305 or XF300 Professional Camcorders when used in tandem to shoot 3D HD video. This allows one to perform OIS Lens Shift so that one is able to optically align a couple of XF305 or XF300 camcorders and a Focal Length Guide when it comes to displaying the zoom position of each camera in relation to each other, while helping out in the calibration of zoom settings. The Canon XF305 and XF300 Professional Camcorders will retail for $8,000 and $6,700, respectively, where each purchase will come bundled with a Genuine Canon 18x HD L-series lens, a trio of Canon developed and designed native 1920 x 1080 CMOS image sensors, and Canon?s own XF Codec. Solar panels might be the way to go for most folks where green and clean energy is concerned, but unfortunately for the world, solar panels are not only expensive to produce, they are quite in efficient as well, losing plenty of energy in the form of heat. Researchers at Wake Forest University might have found a way to counter such a dilemma – by working on a new kind of polymer solar-thermal device which will merge photovoltaics with a system that captures the sun’s infrared radiation in order to generate heat. This means taking advantage of both heat and light, which could potentially result in delivering up to 40% savings where heating costs are concerned, while dramatically reducing your household’s power bills since it produces electricity as well. This solar-thermal device is said to boast of an impressive 30% conversion efficiency – now that’s more than double of what most ordinary solar panels are able to convert.

The Guardly mobile personal safety app is now available on the App Store, where iPhone and iPod touch users living in the US as well as Canada can get their hands on it – for a small fee of $9.99 monthly or $99.99 annually, of course. Just before you stomp your feet and take off in a huff, hear us out – the Guardly will allow smartphone users in distress to alert, connect, and collaborate with those who are in their designated personal safety network and authorities, using just a single tap on their device. This will hopefully decrease the amount of time it takes for help to arrive at an emergency, where the app can also escalate an emergency to 9-1-1 at any point during an incident. Sounds like the ideal app for students, young professionals, travelers, and sports enthusiasts, or just about anyone who feel that they aren’t safe enough. Live and let live, I say – all we need to do is our best in terms of safety and precautions, while leaving the rest to providence. Of course, carrying around a can of mace doesn’t hurt, either. Check out a video of Guardly in action in the extended post. [Press Release]

Ever since Verizon rolled out their CDMA iPhone 4, it has certainly impressed in terms of sales, but not everything is fine and dandy for the Big Red camp since there are growing reports that Verizon’s native iPad 2 is experiencing reboot issues – users have complained that their magical tablet need to go through a reboot process if they want to hook up to a 3G network after turning that feature off. While Wi-Fi works just nice, 3G connections will take at least a few minutes – and in some cases, not at all. No idea on what’s causing this, and even making a trip to the Genius Bar has failed to yield any working solution. So far, we do know that the most recommended procedure would be to turn the cellular data switch on, power the iPad 2 down, power it up, and turn on cellular data since the data switch is already on. The grass isn’t really greener on the other side now, is it?

It was only a matter of time before some enterprising person took the Android-powered Motorola XOOM tablet and turn it into a phone. While it might be one of the more powerful Android tablets at point of publishing, a decent Android smartphone is also capable of performing similar tasks, albeit on a much smaller display. Xda-developers forum member sangreal06 has decided to do something about the situation so that you need not tote two devices simultaneously, although his solution might be cause of embarassment since you would need to hold conversations on your XOOM itself, which is quite hefty might we remind you. Apparently, this requires one to throw in phone capabilities to the tablet via Google Voice in some way – after all, the microphone and speaker are not working at the moment, but you are able to send text messages while initiating phone calls with this hack. A rooted 3G XOOM is required to apply this tweak in case you’re interested. Just be careful since you won’t be able to claim your warranty if your XOOM ends up bricked.

Scalpers and touts have always been around since the beginning of mankind – remember how Jacob managed to convince Esau to part with his birthright over a bowl of lentil stew? That must be some stew for sure. How about WWDC 2011 tickets going for $4,000 as another example? The T-Mobile G2X is not exempt either from such a ridiculous price point, where it is going for $799 over at eBay, and we do wonder who would fork out that kind of crazy money considering the real deal will be arriving in 10 days’ time, and for $199.99 after a mail-in rebate on a 2-year contract. Of course, it is interesting to note that the individual who put the G2X up for sale did not block the IMEI and identifying information of the device, so could it be an employee who put it up without thinking too much about the consequences of such an action? Clearly this is a case where being patient pays off in 600 different dollar bills.

Valentine’s Day might be over for the man-geek in your life, but if you have run out of all ideas on what to get him since he already has the iPad 2 as well as the HTC ThunderBolt, what else can you fall back on but the trusted tie? Instead of some designer garb, you might want to check out the Screen-printed Circuit Board tie instead that comes with copper and silver metallic inks for that added touch of realism. Treated by the creator over at Etsy to be like a piece of modern art, specialty metallic inks were incorporated into its design. You can choose from normal, narrow or skinny widths, but unfortunately it is sold out at the moment due to high demand. In fact, current orders will only begin to ship at the end of the month, now how’s that for popularity? He’ll be thrilled with this and love you all the more, that’s for sure.

A sports car should always have two color options available – red and black, while other colors can just be there as an afterthought. If you are Asus and want to roll out a Lamborghini-inspired notebook, then it makes sense to follow the same rule, where we have orange and black color options for the Asus Lamborghini VX7 which is powered by a second generation Intel Core i7 processor, boasting a whopping 16GB or DDR3 RAM, USB 3.0 connectivity and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphics card with 3GB of video memory. You can opt from Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Home Basic where the operating system is concerned, while your eyes will definitely appreciate the 15.6″ 16:9 Full HD (1920×1080) LED backlit display. If DVDs aren’t your thing, then how about throwing in a Blu-ray writer as well? All those “luxurious” features carry a 3.82kg baggage, no thanks to its 8-cell battery and rather solid build up. At least there is a Kensington lock to make sure no one performs a “Gone in 60 Seconds” move while you take a toilet break at Starbucks.
