Ubisoft reveals Assassins Creed Utopia for iOS
and Android

For those who were gaming way back when browser games like Arch Mage and Utopia were (and probably still are to a certain extent) popular, then you?re probably familiar with the concept of building a city, raising an army, defending yourself from attacks and launching attacks on enemies. Well if you enjoyed those types of social games, then Ubisoft?s recently announced Assassin?s Creed Utopia might be a game worth keeping an eye out for. Scheduled for a release in winter, Assassin?s Creed Utopia is a social game where it allows players to build up a town, train assassins, pit them against your friends or join up with your friends against a common enemy. It will be set in the 17th century in the New World and will be making its way onto mobile platforms such as Android and iOS. We?re not sure how this will play out but it sounds like an interesting concept and we?ll be keeping an eye out for it in the future.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OTA update leaked for
T-Mobiles Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999

Heads up T-Mobile subscribers, if you own the Samsung Galaxy S3 and you?re wondering when T-Mobile and Samsung will push out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, well we?re just as clueless as you are but the good news is that it looks like an OTA Android 4.1 leak for the SGH-T999 (T-Mobile?s version of the Galaxy S3) has been spotted online. It?s hard to say if this is the final build that will be released officially, or if this build is unfinished, but we guess for those who are impatient, you can get your hands on the update via SamMobile?s website. As always we caution you to proceed with care and make sure you know what you?re doing, lest you end up with a bricked handset and money down the drain. In any case hopefully this is a sign that the update is around the corner, as apparently Android 4.1 Jelly Bean should be making its way onto US Galaxy S3 handsets by the end of the month.

The Chewing Gum Battery concept looks incredibly
handy

Battery packs for smartphones tend to add unnecessary bulk to the device, making it thicker and heavier than it already is. Mobile chargers too can be quite bulky and heavy and do always fit into your pocket, thus requiring you to bring a bag wherever you go. However thanks to designer Ping-Yi Li, this Chewing Gum Battery concept was conceived where the battery is shaped as thin and flat as a chewing gum, just minus the sugary goodness and edible nature. As pictured in the rendering above, the Chewing Gum Battery can be slapped onto the back of our gadgets, thus giving them the extra boost in battery life. They will be sold at solar-powered dispensing stations and will come like chewing gums do, in a pack. Sounds pretty novel but the idea of being able to purchase batteries from a vending machine that will give our phones, cameras, or laptops that extra hour or two of battery life sure seems rather handy! What do you guys think?

Kobo Glo announced

Kobo has certainly been productive behind the scenes with the introduction of the Kobo Glo, Kobo Mini, and Kobo Arc devices, where the Arc is a 7? Android-powered tablet. I guess the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire will definitely need to look over their shoulders now, no? The new Kobo family will be budget friendly, starting from $79.99 upwards depending on the model, while offering readers with additional choice as well as more ways to personalize their eReading experience, carrying the option of new stylish colors, accessories, lighting and multimedia choices.

The front-lit Kobo Glo comes with an innovative soft, even and adjustable ComfortLight technology so that you can read regardless of the time of the day – or night. It has a durable screen and customizable page-turning features, relying on E Ink technology, customizable fonts and a no-glare XGA high-resolution 6″ E Ink display to get the job done, you might even be fooled into thinking that you are reading print on paper. Not only that, it comes with Wi-Fi connectivity so that you can peruse through recommendations in the Kobo eBookstore. You can further expand upon the 2GB of internal memory via a microSD memory card slot if you choose. Choose from Black, White, Pink Sunset, Blue Moon, or Silver Star shades when the Kobo Glo arrives this October 1st onwards at $129.99 a pop. [Press Release]

Samsung investigated by Korea FTC over antitrust
allegations by Apple

Samsung logoDespite neither Samsung nor Apple gaining the upper hand in their court fight in South Korea, it looks like Samsung might be worse for wear as the Korea Fair Trade Commission has started to investigate Apple?s antitrust claims against Samsung. The Cupertino company is claiming that Samsung is abusing its wireless technology patents to give themselves an advantage over their competitors in the mobile industry. At the same time, Samsung is also facing similar investigations over in Europe as the EC is looking into whether Samsung?s standards-essential FRAND patents violate the EU?s antitrust laws. No word on when this investigation will be complete, but it certainly looks like Samsung has their plate full, what with other lawsuits with Apple pending in other countries and their appeal in the US which will hopefully get them out of paying Apple $1 billion in damages.

HTC One X Cushnie Et Ochs edition looks pretty
unique

Limited edition handsets are usually designed in pretty unique ways to help stand out from the regular version, and as pictured above, this particular limited edition HTC One X is certainly unique. Unfortunately you will not be able to find these in the stores as the handset will only be given to a select handful of people as part of Fashion Week. The innards of this One X will remain the same as its regular edition sibling, but the main (and probably only) difference is its body which sports a two-toned look which was designed in collaboration with Cushnie Et Ochs. It looks pretty good but we guess a similar look can be achieved via third-party case manufacturers, although if this is the model you?re after, perhaps you can keep an eye out on websites such as Craigslist or eBay and see if you have any luck there.

Kobo Arc Android-powered eReader

You know the idiom of reading someone like a book – well, the same can be said of the Kobo Arc, except that its choice of reading material is you, the owner. Yes sir, we said that right, the Kobo Arc is a 7″ Android-powered eReader that will definitely tread upon the hallowed ground of the Google Nexus 7 as well as the Amazon Kindle Fire, although chances are we will get a look at a newer generation Kindle Fire later this morning. But I digress – what does the Kobo Arc have to offer that will make it stand out from the rest of the crowd?

For starters, the Kobo Arc was said to be designed to reflect your personal experiences through the discovery of preferences, tastes and passions of each individual across a different range of content. It comes with the unique Tapestries interface that makes it a whole lot easier (or at least Kobo hopes to) to search for new videos, uncover new movies, discover new eBooks and websites among others. “Pin” whatever you like, and Kobo Arc will use that repository of information to deliver more of the same genre down the road. (more…)

HTC Flyer 2 rumored to sport Qualcomms Snapdragon
S4 chip and an aluminum anodized body

While HTC has been pretty busy releasing new Android smartphones (and possibly upcoming Windows Phone handsets as well), things on the tablet front have been pretty quiet, although a recent report from the folks at PhoneArena has suggested that we could be looking forward to a HTC Flyer 2. While the device has yet to be officially announced, PhoneArena claims that we expect to see a 7? display with a resolution of 1280×768 along with an anodized aluminum body similar to that on the HTC One S.

It will be powered by Qualcomm?s Snapdragon S4 chip and will sport a 3MP rear-facing camera, a 1MP front-facing camera and will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. No word on pricing or if it will come bundled with a stylus (the stylus on the Flyer was sold separately at its launch), but hopefully the details will be revealed on the 19th of September (which some believe might be Windows Phone related, but we?ll see). If you enjoyed the original HTC Flyer and wouldn?t mind getting your hands on its successor, check back with us on the 19th to see if there are any details to be had about the rumored device.
