One of the most popular features on RIM’s BlackBerry phones is the availability of the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service, so when the PlayBook was released without native BBM, quite a number of folks were disappointed. Sure you could Bridge the tablet and your BlackBerry phone for the feature, but what about those times when you don’t have your phone with you? It would be such a hassle to go look for your phone just to run BBM.
Well, according to a recently posted screenshot, the native BBM app for the PlayBook might be on its way. The folks over at BlackBerryEmpire managed to spot an image on the official BlackBerry website showing BBM on the PlayBook’s App World (the image has now been replaced). While it shows a screenshot of how BBM would look like with BlackBerry Bridge, but the presence of an “Uninstall” button suggest that it is a native app instead. Could this be a bad case of photo editing, or a sign of things to come? We’ll keep you posted if anything turns up.

Yahoo’s board has “fired” its CEO Carol Bartz, and has announced a reorganization of the executive staff. Timothy Morse is now the interim CEO, effective immediately. Yahoo is still looking for a new CEO and it has been rumored that the search has been going on for months now.
Yahoo has also built an Executive Leadership Council to help Timothy Morse run the company’s day to day operations. See the composition of the Council at the end of this article…
What makes this change more dramatic than usual is that Carol Bartz has sent an email notifying that she has been “fired” (her words), over the phone. It’s not clear how things went down, but usually executives and their employers keep things quiet and try to save face. This must be pretty bad.
To all,
I am very sad to tell you that I?ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo?s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward.
Carol

Great news for BlackBerry users ? RIM has officially released a brand new update for the BlackBerry App World today. Bringing the app up to version 3.0, the latest App World features a brand new user interface which makes looking for the app you want a much easier affair. Apps, games and themes are now all in their own channels, and there’s been the addition of a new search bar and filtering options.
Users’ BlackBerry ID accounts have also been implemented to make payment options easier, and now there are social sharing options which let users easily share content via Facebook, BBM and Twitter. Look out for the notification update on your BlackBerry phone (only for devices with BB 5 OS and above) over the next few days, or head over to the official BlackBerry website to download the update.

Great news for those of you awaiting for news about the next generation iPhone’s launch ? it might be happening sooner than you think. While no invitations have been sent out for any special Apple event yet, it has been reported that iOS 5 and iCloud training has begun, which is something that Apple Store employees usually go through a couple of weeks before the launch of a new product or service.
Since the iPhone 5 will be running on iOS 5, and Apple usually releases a new version of iOS together with the iPhone it could mean that the iPhone 5 announcement is in a couple of weeks time as well. But all this is still speculation up to this point, and also based on Apple’s history of releases, so take it with a pinch of salt. Especially since Apple didn’t release the iPhone a few months ago like it has been doing with the previous generations. But hey, if you’re looking forward to the iPhone 5 ? keep those fingers crossed.

Interested in checking out what the multimedia interface screens of the PlayStation Vita will look like when it is finally released? Since most of us don’t have access to one of the consoles now, screenshots of the console in action will have to do. Thanks to the folks over at andriasang.com, they’ve published 9 screen captures of what the Vita’s multimedia interface. For those of you who didn’t get a chance to demo the console at conventions, you’ll be able to tell from the images that Sony is going to make the Vita’s UI more touchscreen centric.
Those of you used to the original PSP UI will probably get used to more convenient features like an onscreen keyboard you can touch type with and buttons you can press by just tapping them with your finger. Let’s not forget things like scrolling, panning etc ? it’s all going to be much more convenient with the use of a touchscreen. Check out the full gallery here.

Following in the footsteps of the Department of Justice which filed a lawsuit to block the AT&T-T-Mobile acquisition last week, Sprint is also chiming in with a lawsuit of its own, to back the DOJ’s decision. Sprint had previously opposed the merger, but it wasn’t in the form of a lawsuit until today. According to Sprint’s vice president of litigation, the carrier opposes AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile because it would harm consumers and be unfair to the competition. It even went as far as to say that such an acquisition would be illegal.
Here are the main points in Sprint’s lawsuit: the lawsuit would harm retail consumers and corporate customers by causing higher prices and less innovation; entrench the duopoly control of AT&T and Verizon ? the two carriers would be controlling over ¾ of the market if the deal went through, and it would harm Sprint and other independent wireless carriers. Now the carrier’s reasons aren’t too far from the DOJ’s own, but it makes you wonder why Sprint waited until now to file it. Are you for or against the AT&T-T-Mobile acquisition?
