[Web 2.0] At Web 2.0, Pascal Josselin, CEO, showed me a demo of the revamped Yoono. Today, the beta is officially launching and you can test it for yourself.Like the previous version, Yoono?s toolbar suggest similar sites while you are browsing the web and enables you to meet new friends interested in the same topic. The coolest new feature is the access to most of your social networking sites in one place (Facebook, Friendfeed, Flickr, Last.fm, Piczo and Twitter). You can update your profiles from there and receive your friends updates in a well designed user interface, constantly visible in a left navigation bar integrated in your browser. This will save me a lot of time! Yoono toolbar allows also to post text and photos directly to a blog.
The Yoono chat offers also some nice features: the ability to drag and drop photos directly from the web and include them in a live chat session, bring together AIM, GTalk, MSN and Yahoo! For the moment you can upload photos only in Flickr, but Pascal told me that they plan to add more photo sites, if so, this could become a better service than Oosah, (also launched during Web 2.0).

Microsoft and Yahoo could not come to terms with an agreement, and hence the former has walked away from the idea of purchasing the latter to end months' long speculation and drama amongst tech watchers. I think the biggest winner from all of this would be Google, as they will still see their two competitors as fragmented camps who won't have the fight in them to overhaul the Palo Alto startup in the long run. Show's over, folks, and everything remains to status quo until one of them folds up due to competitive pressures.

Virgin Mobile will be offering the new Samsung Slash, bringing an extremely lightweight phone that weighs a mere 3 ounces while measuring 3.8" x 1.8" x 0.7". It will feature Bluetooth connectivity, a color display, voice dialing, Web access and a talk time of 3.5 hours at best. Other specifications are still kept under lock and key, including availability and pricing. As the age old adage goes - good things come to those who wait, so that's just about all we can do at the moment.

Add to myYahoo!Overall (with one glaring exception, which I’ll write about tomorrow), it was a great weekend down in San Mateo for the 2008 Maker Faire. As far as events go, it’s almost the anti-CES. Instead of expensive, polished booths, most exhibits were on foldout tables. Instead of a team of well-trained booth staffs, the [...]

I have a very strong feeling that the Sidekick Aspen/Gekko will be the same handset, but am not quite sure just which name will T-Mobile bank on (no pun intended) in order to rake in the dough as customers sign up. Gekko might be the better choice, considering its catchy sound and flirting with the ability of the device to change colors. This will probably be the follow up to the Sidekick iD which was released quite a fair bit back, and will feature a similar display and features to that of the LX. No iea on how much it will cost, but it will be cheaper compared to the Sidekick LX.

Image Moments 8, as you can tell, is an 8" digital photo frame from Digital Foci that boasts advanced LED backlight technology which is better than standard TFT LCD displays, and a whopping 450MB of internal memory - now that's something you don't see everyday as most other manufacturers will just throw you memory card slots and that's that.
