Sprint Galaxy Nexus LTE arriving

It seems that a LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus might be making its way to Sprint, thanks to an advertisement which was published by accident on one of CNET’s CES pages. This phone resides on Verizon Wireless at the moment, and to see it appear on a different carrier gives consumers options, since Sprint has just announced that their 4G LTE network will be arriving sometime in the first half of this year – which is a good six months before the world comes to an end according to the Mayans. When contacted, a spokeswoman from Sprint remained mum as per public disclosure policy, so we will just have to play the waiting game to see whether the Galaxy Nexus will actually arrive on Sprint one of these days. I am in favor of it, otherwise such an ad would not have been completed – what do you think? Perhaps Sprint might make an announcement of the Galaxy Nexus’ impending arrival CES, so we hope to be there to catch the ball when it drops.

Stephen Hawking fails to figure out women

Stephen Hawking, one of the more brilliant mathematical minds of our generation, might be able to perform complex calculations and come up with amazing theories concerning the realm of science as well as knowing a little bit more about the universe around us, but there is one thing that still has him stumped – women. Do not worry, brother Hawking, as you are not the only one in this boat, and I am quite sure that you won’t be the last, either. Here is what the 70-year old famed physicist says, “Women. They are a complete mystery.” Do you happen to share the same views as Mr. Hawking himself, or have you got your girlfriend or wife all figured out, except for that niggling issue about complex calculations concerning constellations that are millions of light years away. I guess it is really one or the other, as you cannot have your cake and eat it, too.

Rumor: iPad 3 gets Facetime HD camera, better
back camera

The rumor mills are entering overdrive mode, with the upcoming iPad 3 touted to take over the iPad 2 as the best selling tablet regardless of mobile operating system to date when it arrives, which is no surprise, actually. It seems that iLounge?s Jeremy Horwitz did tweet a fair number of details from various sources concerning the iPad 3, where it is said to receive a Facetime HD camera up in front, making it the first of its kind, while the back camera will also be raised to see the iPhone 4 or 4S, depending on the lens size. Of course, there were older rumors about Apple churning out prototypes of next generation iPads that came with 8-megapixel sensors in the course of 2011, but things and time might have altered that final figure even as you read this. There is also an assertion from Horwitz that the next generation iPad will be 1mm thicker so that new parts can be squeezed in, and I am quite sure the added 1mm would not be noticeable. Most folks would most probably ask whether the iPad 3 will come with a Retina display – what do you think?

Sprint 4G LTE arriving first half of the year

Sprint logoSprint will be launching its LTE network later this year, and we now know when and which markets will be getting it first. According to an announcement from Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint; customers in Dallas, Atlanta, Houston and San Antonio are expected to be among the first to benefit from 4G LTE and improved 3G coverage in the first half of 2012. So in addition to high-speed data speeds, customers will also benefit from improved voice and data quality, and stronger in-building signal penetration.

There wasn’t any mention about the touted speeds Sprint’s 4G LTE network will bring, or what devices will be available on it. But if we learn from the other carriers (AT&T and Verizon) that launched LTE networks before Sprint, we can expect hotspots and modems to come first before we see any phones or tablets riding on the 4G train. Anybody excited about Sprint 4G LTE arriving in your area?

HTC HD8 Windows Phone handset sneaks up in app
stats

The Windows Phone platform is not exactly the primary mobile operating system of choice for many people, hence having it languish behind iOS and Android at the moment despite receiving very favorable views from those who have already given it a go, especially in the latest Mango iteration. Well, it seems that there is a HTC HD8 in the works that has recently been spotted running Windows Phone 7 Build 7740 – supposedly taking over where the HTC HD7 left off, continuing the legacy of the Windows Phone 6.5-powered HTC HD2. This might also eventually end up as a Windows 8 device, also known as an Apollo handset. Since it was caught in application stats running Build 7740 of Windows Phone 7 means there is a physical unit somewhere out there in Romania, over the Vodafone network, but that is about as far as we can get before the trail runs cold. Do you think HTC will spring a surprise on the masses at CES next week, or at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month?

Lexar cranks up the gear a notch with the introduction of their latest memory card of the Compact Flash variety, proudly introducing the industry’s first 1000x CF card. Yes sir, just like cars, memory cards can never be fast enough, where it touts an eye popping 150MB/s read speeds, and has been tested to record data streams at up to 20MB/s. Videographers and photographers will definitely throw envious glances at this Lexar 1000x CF card, waiting for the moment where they can pick one up from the store and start shooting away, feeling the unity of great shooting skill, superb equipment and lag-free memory cards. At least, until the next, faster version comes out, that is. (more…)

BryteWerks Model One bridges gap between HTPC and
HD projector

A HTPC (Home Theater PC) is one diminutive machine which will sit quietly in your living room, ensuring you de-stress from a hard day’s work at the office. Well, the BryteWerks Model One is an interesting idea that has already rolled off production lines, where it will function not only as your resident HTPC, but will also come with a built-in High Definition projector as well. I do wonder what kind of efficient cooling system it uses, considering how projectors tend to get very hot, and with the Model One’s form factor being rather limited in terms of size, it is surely pure engineering win. Microphone transforms hard surfaces into a touch
interface

Before you take off your glasses and say, “Mother of God…”, read on. Bruno Zamborlin has come up with a unique microphone which is capable of creating a gestural interface using any hard surface that is available. Zamborlin himself cannot really explain the system which he has dubbed “concatenative synthesis,” and we have no idea as to what the small microphone is hooked up to in the video right after the jump. What we do know is this – it is a highly portable computer system, and the thought of using “concatenative synthesis” for interface and interaction in methods and places that you never thought possible is just mind warping.

Just what would you do with Zamborlin’s system if you were to be able to take advantage of it without being limited to any of the laws of physics? I would be quite sure that the House of Nintendo would surely be able to wring something out of this idea for a new gaming concept that will be laughed at in the beginning before the rest of the industry follow their lead. Vertu welcomes Year of the Dragon with three new
luxury handsets

Vertu must have looked at the calendar and realized if the Mayans were correct, they might as well, as a company, go out with a bang – by ushering in three new luxury handset models in time to welcome the Lunar New Year, which will see the rabbit hand over the baton to the dragon. If you happen to be in possession of deep pockets, then you can choose from the stainless steel and emerald, black stainless steel and ruby or yellow gold and diamond models. Since this is part of Vertu’s Signature collection, you will find these models embedded with precious stones and top-grade metals, in addition to a hand-engraved four-claw dragon located right on the battery cover – I will leave that to your artistic taste to see whether this appeals to you or not.
