HTC purchases mobile backup service developer,
Dashwire

HTC logoWhile HTC is still under fire from Apple due to alleged patent infringement, it doesn’t look like the Taiwanese manufacturer is letting those problems get in the way of its business. It has been recently reported that HTC has purchased a Seattle company named Dashwire. Known for developing a platform that lets users back up data created on their phones to the cloud, Dashwire will become a subsidiary of HTC. HTC will be integrating Dashwire’s technology into its own HTCSense.com cloud services.

Star Wars Millennium Falcon is remote controlled

Remote Controlled Millennium Falcon

Wish you could pilot your very own Millennium Falcon space ship? Well you could if you existed in the Star Wars universe, but since you don?t, it looks like you’ll have to be content with what you can get your hands on in Earth, which in this case would be a toy version of the ship from Hasbro’s Speed Stars series.

Lower-priced iPhone launching soon

Apple

According to an analyst over at RBC Capital, who were reported to have recently spent time with Apple’s CFO, Peter Oppenheimer and COO, Tim Cook; he he’s got some interesting news to share. As reported by BGR, the analyst, Mike Abramsky, was said to have discussed a whole range of topics, from Apple’s patent battles to the possibility of a budget-priced iPhone. Judging by what he had to say, it seems like the low-cost iPhone should be on its way.

Corroborating with previous reports, the low-cost iPhone is said to be the iPhone 3GS that will be sold for $350 off contract. Given that the 3GS is old news and outdated by now (it will be 2 generations old when the iPhone 5 is released), Apple should have no problem selling it at low prices, since it will cost cheaper to make as well. With a range of differently priced iPhones, this should give Apple consumers more devices to choose from when picking out an iPhone, which should give the company an answer to low-priced Android phones.

Drought pushes Texas residents to drink
(recycled) pee

Drought

According to the latest reports online, folks living in Texas right now are experiencing record-breaking, scorching hot weather and that’s not the worst part: they also have the drought to deal with. Apparently it’s so bad that Texans have been driven to drink their own pee just to survive ? at least that’s what the citizens of Big Spring are doing anyway. Fortunately, it’s not what you think.

DirecTV interested in purchasing Hulu

DirecTV logoWe all know that Hulu, one of the web’s premium internet streaming services, has recently been put up for sale by its stakeholders ? Fox, NBC and Disney. And joining the list of potential acquirers (Apple, Yahoo, Google, Verizon, AT&T and Amazon) is DirecTV, a direct broadcast satellite service provider and broadcaster.

At yesterday’s earnings call, Mike White, the CEO of DirecTV, admitted that the notion of owning Hulu is certainly a possibility but the company is still determining whether it makes sense to make the purchase or not. Due to the lack of enthusiasm of snatching up Hulu, reporters are speculating that DirecTV is downplaying interest (to get a better deal) or it could be launching a service of its own that’s similar to Hulu, hence the disinterest ? or the company just doesn’t need Hulu at all.

But one thing is for sure though ? DirecTV owning Hulu makes much more sense than a company like Verizon or Microsoft acquiring it. After all, they’re in the both in the video content delivery business.

Qualcomm Not Exclusive WP7 Chip (Duh)

The fact that Qualcomm is not the exclusive system on a chip (or SoC / processor) is making the headlines today, for some reason. Although Qualcomm has always said that (factually) it was the only player available on Windows Phone 7 (WP7), I’m pretty sure that I heard Qualcomm’s CEO Paul Jacobs say that this was not an “exclusive” in the sense that Microsoft could not use another hardware partner. This is clearly not “news”. It seems that some media outlets have picked on a recent declaration from Qualcomm VP Taj Talluri saying that “there is no written exclusive”, and somehow interpreted as news.
