Epson Dreamio LCD projectors

Epson Dreamio LCD projectorsThe Dreamio line of LCD projectors from Epson Japan has a couple of new additions, namely the EMP-TWD10 and EMP-DM1. The former boasts 720p (1,280 x 800) resolution, so it isn't exactly the optimal choice when it comes to playing your PS3 games on the big screen. Other features include HDMI output, a 140 Watt lamp, a contrast ratio of 1,000 to 1, and a brightness of 1,200 lumens. The EMP-DM1 is dumbed down by dropping with the HDMI output. It supports a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels and has a contrast ratio of 3,000 to 1. Both devices come with a built-in DVD player and USB ports for instant playback of MP3, WMA, and JPEG files. The Epson EMP-TWD10 and EMP-DM1 projectors will go on sale in Japan from September 19 for $1,290 and $817 respectively.

Egg-citing gizmos for your kitchen

Egg-citing gizmos for your kitchen

Talk about making your kitchen more alive with this kitchen gadget from the Form Series from designer Charles Job. It looks like the hockey puck, but since it is an egg-related device, it would make perfect sense to interpret this as the shadow of an egg instead. Comprising of an egg timer, salt and pepper shakers, and an egg slicer, chances are any egg lover would want to have this in their kitchen. A trio of all three will retail for $95 if you're residing in Denmark, and I must say it'd definitely come in handy if you're a big fan of picnics.

Casio unveils prototype shooter

Casio unveils prototype shooterThe IFA 2007 event at Berlin saw Casio release a prototype shooter that uses what probably is Sony's 60fps 1/1.8" CMOS sensor, capturing up to sixty 6 megapixel frames in a single second(!). Heck, it is even capable of shooting VGA video at 300fps, although I don't see any practical application for the average home user - then again, would such a person ever pick up this monster of a digital camera? Other features include 12x optical zoom and a 2.8" LCD display. It would be interesting to see what type of storage is used by this camera, especially when you take into consideration the high transfer speeds involved to archive that much data in an instant.

Biodegradable polystyrene in the works

Biodegradable polystyrene in the worksNow isn't this just ironic - biodegradable polystyrene. Shanpu Ya and colleagues at the Polymer Science & Engineering College of Quingdao University of Science & Technology in China have apparently reached such a milestone, having applied for a patent on a biodegradable polystyrene. This material was made possible by embedding water-absorbing resin particles that expand whenever it comes into contact with water, turning the polystyrene to powder which theoretically will then be biodegradable (and ultimately, environmentally friendly). Sounds pretty neat considering the amount of non-biodegradable garbage we generate each day - it would be better to produce packaging that is recyclable in the first place isn't it?

IOCELL mDrive dives straight in

IOCELL mDrive dives straight in
The IOCELL mDrive not only stores your data in style, it is also waterproof so you don't have to worry about forgetting to remove the mDrive from your pants pocket whenever you do your laundry. It will be available in 1GB and 2GB capacities that retail for $42 and $63 respectively, although word has it that a 4GB version is also in the works. In addition to shrugging off water, the mDrive is also shock- and heat-resistant, making this the perfect portable data storage device for those working in harsh environments. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms, and will be able to withstand up to 1 million data writes over the course of 10 years before giving up the ghost. Not sure if we'll still use USB flash drives by then.

Samsung sexes up new laser printers

Samsung sexes up new laser printersSamsung has a brand new line of printers that are certainly more than capable of turning heads at the office thanks to sleek new designs. Coming in an ebony black housing (a surefire method to attract fingerprints), this new line of printers eschews buttons n favor of touch sensors for a futuristic look. The ML-1630 is also touted to be the thinnest printer in the world, measuring a mere 11cm thick. Hopefully there is some substance attached to these printers as no further information concerning the release date, price, and print speeds are available.

Guesstimating Apples Next iPod

Guesstimating Apple’s Next iPod

This is probably our last chance to guess what the next iPod is going to be, before the big announcement, so here's my guess:

Basically, Apple will bring the iPhone’s sex appeal to the high-end iPod. By doing this, the company will not only improve the user interface, but it will also open the potential for applications – if both devices work on the same basic platform. Let’s wait and see…

Palm kills the Foleo official

Palm kills the Foleo – official

After many recent rumors saying that the Foleo will ship “on time”, Palm has decided to kill the Foleo, its “mobile companion” project that we presented here in late May. Back then, I pointed out that there was no market for such a device and it seems that Palm realized it too. Read the letter from Palm’s CEO in the full post.
