Hitachi launches hardy Endurastar drives

Hitachi launches hardy Endurastar drives
Cars are getting crammed with more and more technology with each passing day, with functions such as navigation, multimedia, and communications being taken over by an on-board computer. This leads to the issue of having a decent amount of storage space which can withstand the rigors of everyday driving. Hitachi Global Storage Technologies caters to the need for tough hard drives by announcing the hardy Endurastar K4K50 which functions perfectly even in temperatures as low as below 22 degrees Fahrenheit or as high as 185 degrees. You can even take your vehicle as high as 5,000 meters above sea level or 300 meters below sea level, and the hard drive will run without a hitch. The Endurastar N4K50 is less hardy, operating at temperatures ranging from minus 3 degrees to 158 degrees Fahrenheit, and at altitudes up to 3,000 meters.

Wine for Dummies robot

Wine for Dummies robot
You can throw the Wine for Dummies book out of the window now with this robot that can identify a wide variety of wines, cheeses, and hors d’oeuvres. This robot is a result of a collaboration between researchers at NEC System Technologies and Mie University. Wines are identified via an infrared spectrometer located on its left arm, verbalizing the name upon a successful analysis. The robot will even throw in its comments with regard to the wine's taste as well as the kinds of food that complement the wine. This robot can be programmed to recognize different wines according to the owner's preference as well as new varieties. This diminutive looking robot stands at just 2 feet tall with the sky-high price of a new car.

TV Ears make listening easy

TV Ears make listening easyThe TV Ears is a great device for those whose ears are failing them. It caters for an extremely niche market, and most grandparents can now understand what their grandkids' cartoon characters are actually saying. In most cases, they would probably prefer not to listen to the type of language used in today's cartoons and return the TV Ears for a refund, but this device comes in handy when you want to catch up on news and documentaries. It works by eliminating background sound with a built-in microchip, lowering background sound below the 100Hz level while raising speech to above 1,000Hz. Sound is transferred via infrared, and the TV Ears are compatible with nearly all entertainment devices. Pick a set up for your grandparents today for $150.

Packard Bell Smart TV S320

Packard Bell Smart TV S320
Most homes that are ready for the next generation in entertainment often come with a Windows Media Center PC sitting somewhere in the corner. Packard Bell decided to merge both the PC and a TV into the Smart TV S320. This HD-ready LCD display offers 32" of viewing real estate with the power of a Pentium D820 2.8GHz processor running behind it. Features include 1GB of RAM, a spacious 400GB hard drive, a DVD+RW drive, and a 64MB ATI X1300 graphics card. Looks like Packard Bell has a potential winner here - the only drawback would be the lack of upgradability. The Smart TV S320 currently retails for £1,999. Do our readers prefer convergence devices, or is there still any merit in purchasing individual function units?

Mossalibra makes dancing fun

Mossalibra makes dancing fun
Clubbing will take on a totally new face with the Mossalibra game. It uses motion capture technology that maps the player's movements and translates them into an on-screen avatar composed entirely of pixels. Everyone around you will then be able to see how well (or bad) you pull off your dance moves. Collect points by duplicating other character's movements or cook up something original to turn the crowd on. There are no hard and fast rules with the Mossalibra which ensures a fresh playing experience every time. It is compatible with all forms of music played around, but we reckon the waltz and some polka would languish somewhere at the bottom of the playlist.
