Battlefield 3 gets its own reality show

How do you measure the success of a video game? When it spawns a whole line of new products and material that aren’t video games? Possibly. What do you call a video game that spawns a reality show then? In this case, it would be Battlefield 3. EA has just announced that it has teamed up with some of football’s biggest stars for an exclusive reality show titled: GTTV Presents Battlefield 3: Operation Gridiron.
No, it won’t be a show about football players duking it out with each other playing Battlefield on their consoles. The focus of the reality show will be to put these stars through the “ultimate in combat training by some of the world’s most elite Special Operation Warriors.” After the footballers complete their advanced training, they will have to work together to accomplish a live simulator operation pulled straight out from one of the scenarios in Battlefield 3.
Talk about intense, though this time around there’s no need to worry about lag or cheaters. Battlefield 3: Operation Gridiron starts airing today, with the first episode already up on the Battlefield Facebook Page. The finale will be aired on October 24th 2011 ? the day before the game is released. What a great way to build up hype.

Microsoft released its Mango update for Windows Phone devices last week, and it looks like the company could already be gearing up to release the next big update for its mobile operating system. According to reports online, Microsoft Thailand’s Managing Director, Birathon Kasemsri Na Ayudhayay; the company is set to launch its “biggest consumer brand campaign” later this year and was quoted as saying: “[Microsoft] plans to collaborate with global phone makers Nokia, Samsung, HTC and LG to push its mobile OS to second in the smartphone market by 2015? It will introduce Windows Phone version 7.5 with Thai language support early next year.”

Back in July we reported that the original Crysis would be arriving on consoles, and it looks like the day has finally arrived. EA and Crytek announced today that critically-acclaimed, single-player campaign from Crysis Is now available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Unfortunately it looks like there won’t be any multi-player mode for the console versions of the game so those of you looking to relive the multiplayer days of the PC, running around custom maps will have to look for the PC version.
But for those of you who want to know more about the game’s storyline and unlocking achievements, Crysis for consoles should more than suffice. Graphics have been improved, so have the controls and if you have a 3D TV, the game also supports it. Crysis is available now from the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Games on Demand for $19.99 or 1600 Microsoft Points. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Wow, just when we thought Flash was being shunned by everyone in favor of HTML5, it looks like a lot of companies still have faith in it. Earlier today at the Adobe Max event, Epic Games’ Tim Sweeny announced that the Unreal Engine could run in Flash. To prove his point, he showed off a demonstration of Unreal Tournament 3 running in a web browser using Flash. In Sweeny’s words: “It turned out to look even better than the version we shipped on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with improvements like global illumination, better shadows, and god rays!”
While it’s not arriving on mobile devices anytime that support Flash anytime soon, running the Unreal Engine in a web browser is a pretty impressive feat on its own. You can imagine what games of the future can look like once this baby gets licensed out to other developers. Head over to the official Unreal blog to read more about it.
