Uber10: the greatest gifts, coming up on November 12

Yes, it's that time of the year again (we can't believe it!). Soon, you will run around wondering what to get for your loved ones -probably at the last minute. We can help by suggesting the 10 greatest gifts (under $500) for this holiday season. They are called the “Uber10&rdquo. Please help us select an 11th gift by voting on an extended list (coming any day now).

The Uber10 will be unveiled in a private event in San Francisco on November 12, thanks to our Platinum Sponsor Dolby and Gold Sponsor Intel. Dolby will build a surround sound setup at the event venue to show us what the Dolby Surround Sound Experience is all about. You may be able to experience it for yourself, if the Dolby Truck stops by your town. Check out the cool Dolby videos on Youtube.

Intel will talk about the new Intel Sponsors of Tomorrow campaign and their hilarious "rock star" videos: "Intel Star" TV ad and Intel's "Big Ideas" TV ad

At the private event in San Francisco, both sponsors will demonstrate the coolest gadgets with their latest embedded technology.

Check out the 2007 and 2008 Uber10 lists, This 2009 edition will be published at ubergizmo.com/uber10

We have a few extra tickets for the private event, go to this discussion page on our Facebook Fan page to know how you can get one.

Editor's note: this seems obvious, but we would like to make it clear that companies with products nominated to the Uber10 cannot be accepted as sponsors of the Uber10 event.

Moblin Linux 2.1 now out

Moblin Linux 2.1 now out

The latest Moblin Linux 2.1 is now available for all netbook users to check out, where among the many enhancements and new features will include :-

All of these features won't work perfectly at the moment though, for example, there is only one 3G modem supported at the moment which is the Ericsson MBM, although the team is working to throw in support for additional models in due time.

T-Mobile 7.2Mbps HSPA could roll out now

T-Mobile 7.2Mbps HSPA could roll out now

Seems that T-Mobile has already started to roll out of its 7.2Mbps HSPA network that will make allowance for zippy mobile Internet browsing, and tests performed in listed cities including Chicago and New York did not point to any upgrade, but perhaps someone out there happens to fall under the 7.2Mbps HSPA signal. Do leave a comment if you're one of the lucky few.

Teclast C410HD portable media player

Teclast C410HD portable media player

We're not too sure where Teclast is heading with their latest advertising campaign concerning the C410HD portable media player, but she seems pretty happy to own one of these instead of an iPod. The C410HD apparently supports up to 15 types of video formats, featuring a 4.3" LCD display at 1,366 x 768 resolution alongside 720p HD TV-Out support. No idea on pricing or regional availability of the device though. A hot chick looking at a video of another hottie, hmmm...

Nokia drops new budget phones

Nokia drops new budget phones

Nokia has its fair share of high end handsets as well as entry level models that are the true money spinners for the Finnish cellphone manufacturing company, and they have recently announced five more handsets for the Indonesia market in the form of the Nokia 1280, Nokia 1616, Nokia 1800, Nokia 2220 slide and Nokia 2690. Of course, they will also be made available worldwide in due time, and we suspect emerging markets would see these handsets perform best. The Nokia 1280, Nokia 1616 and Nokia 1800 will cost €20, €24 and €26, respectively, featuring basic functions such as an integrated FM radio, prepaid tracker, flash-light, anti-scratch covers and dust-resistant keypads. As for the more expensive Nokia 2220 slide and Nokia 2690 (€45 and €54, respectively), you can handle email on the go thanks to Nokia’s Ovi mail software.

R1 analog radio

R1 analog radio

The R1 analog radio design is pretty interesting since tuning it to the station of your choice is achieved by physically moving the radio from left to right, while its volume is controlled by rolling the radio forward or backward, depending on your hearing capability. Designed by Il-gu cha, the R1 analog radio looks extremely suitable for visually impaired folks with their more intuitive controls, although we would like to see a settings lock button or switch here lest someone accidentally knocks this over and send those carefully tuned stations out of whack.
