Yes, so plenty of people are still buzzing about the Samsung Galaxy S3, but instead of looking at vaporware (at least until the end of May for those living in Europe), why not shift your attention to something more concrete – like the 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for instance? This particular tablet is now available for an online pre-order over at retailers such as Office Depot, where you will need to drop $399 for this puppy, or take a walk to the nearest store carrying it when May 13th rolls around. Just to refresh your memory on what the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will carry within, we are talking about an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device which will feature a 1,280 x 800 resolution display that does 1080p video without missing a beat, Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, improved speakers and up to 50GB of free space on Dropbox – at least for the first year.

Windows 8 to Cost Less than Windows 7

windows media center

Sometime yesterday, Microsoft put up an eye-opening post about its Media Center and Windows 8. It talked a lot about how the application itself would be used with the upcoming Microsoft OS but the key point about the post is that the native DVD or Blu-ray playback will not be supported.

Wii U controller might get charging dock

I don’t know about you, but I kind of fear for Nintendo in the next round of home console wars – Sony and Microsoft are certainly doing all they can to deliver on the graphical front, not to mention offer an engaging array of other entertainment options on their respective consoles at this moment, so one can only expect a natural progression of something better in the future iteration. How about Nintendo? Clearly lagging behind in terms of hardware performance and capability, the Wii U seems to concentrate more on the gaming experience instead of offering drop dead gorgeous graphics. Only time will tell whether this is a fatal mistake or just a slight annoyance, but we do know that the Wii U’s controller comes with a built-in rechargeable battery, so it makes sense that a charging dock is in the works. LaserSaber turns on the Star Wars style

Ever wished that you were a Jedi over the years? Come on now, there is no reason to be shy to admit to that. Those who have a stronger connection to Star Wars might even have built up their collection of lightsaber toys, but how about commemorating Star Wars Day with the LaserSaber from Wicked Lasers? This unique $100 device will be attached to the Spyder 3-class green and blue lasers from Wicked Lasers, turning it into a unique lightsaber clone. The only thing that is missing from the entire experience? The classic lightsaber hum, so I guess you will either have to use your imagination in this matter, or to make up your own special effects as you swing your LaserSaber around, imagining you’re cutting down enemy droids by the hundreds. Nokia refutes tablet involvement as they sit and
watch

We did mention that Nokia will launch tablets and hybrid smart mobile devices in the future yesterday, but apparently, that is not the true story. Apparently, a Nokia spokesman has been alerted to the situation, and some firefighting was required to quell all rumors, denying what outgoing Chairman Jorma Ollila suggested, and quickly debunked all that was shared with the Financial Times, claiming that Nokia is currently watching the tablet market ?with interest.? To put it succinctly, Keith Nowak, a Nokia spokesman, said, ?What Mr. Ollila said has been misconstrued a bit. As we have been saying, we are watching the space with interest, but have made no announcements regarding a tablet product.? (more…)

Motion Simulation TL1 simulator burns up virtual
asphalt in style

When it comes to driving games, the graphical performance in terms of hardware as well as software programming have certainly come a long way from its early 2D days, where you can now opt to view your rear view mirror as well as the side mirrors, but such peripheral vision does not feel that real no thanks to the nature of a flat display that we see in most living rooms today. If you have the cash to spare in addition to risking the wrath of your other half, then you might want to consider planting the TL1 simulator from Motion Simulator right smack in the middle of the living room, as this system relies on a trio of high definition projectors, delivering a complete view of the virtual track ahead. Nintendo patent application tracks DS from above

Most of us would have thought of our Nintendo DS (whether it is the original, ugly looking DS, the sleek and sexy DS Lite, or the 3DS, it does not matter) as the bomb in terms of the sheer number of hours of enjoyment that it has delivered over the years. Well, it seems that a patent application filed by Nintendo showed off the DS in a new light, one that is not meant for gaming, but rather, to promote and enhance a tourist’s experience in a new place. Just what does this patent application involve? For starters, it will beam the position of the DS to an overhead grid of infrared transmitters, where the DS will then communicate wirelessly to a server which will in turn light up floor displays with maps and directions, letting the DS user choose the route of their choice. Seems to be the perfect tool for tourists at a museum or some other public area who cannot afford a tour guide, but have a spare DS in hand.
