Things aren’t getting any better for Sony and its networks (still down): the government is looking into the huge hack of where 100 million Sony user accounts have been (potentially) compromised. According to Security Expert Dr. Gene Spafford, Sony employees have reported that there was no firewall installed on Sony’s servers, and that the version of Apache (the web server) that Sony was using was updated security-wise. That’s pretty bad, because when people use outdated software, it makes it even easier for hackers to break into their systems.

Want to take recycling to the next level? You might want to take a leaf out of China’s book, where creations constructed out of waste parts from old motor vehicles. Makes perfect sense, actually, as most of the Transformers that we’ve seen are actually motorcars. Of course, there are also other Transformers that come in different form factors, and I have always wondered just how something so big can shrink into something so small.

Is the DVD format about to die out? According to a report by the Digital Entertainment Group, DVD sales in the US, Q1 2011 have dropped 20% when compared to Q1 2010. Studios blamed the fall in sales due to quirks in release cycles, but observers aren’t entirely convinced.
The popular online movie streaming service, Netflix, grew 33% when compared in the same time frame. A huge difference when compared to DVD sales. But a 33% growth might not mean much if the total number of Netflix subscribers don’t surpass the amount of consumers that still purchase DVDs. Are Americans finally abandoning physical media and going completely digital?

When Mac users decide to upgrade their operating systems to OS X Lion later this year, it looks like they might not have to drive out to their favorite software retailer to get their hands on the upgrade disc. According to some rumors, the Mac OS X Lion update will be released to the public via the Mac App Store. If this turns out to be true, it means there’s no need to deal with long queues or faulty discs, or even having to deal with the possibility of no stock.

While we’ve only started to see the myriad of Tegra 2 Android tablets this year, we know that NVIDIA are already hard at work on their next generation System on a Chip (SoC) ? the Tegra 3. And despite the Tegra 3 not available on the market yet, some rumors have surfaced suggesting that ASUS are already putting those chips to use.

We know that stocks of Samsung Droid Charge are piling up in Costcos all over the country, but consumers still haven’t been able to get their hands on one. Ever since the phone was delayed from launching last week due to Verizon’s 4G LTE problems, Verizon hasn’t announced anything updates to the situation. Well it looks like Samsung Mobile US’s tweet account is doing the job. In the last 16 hours, they’ve sent out almost 30 tweets about the upcoming 4G LTE phone from Verizon.
If that isn’t a sign that the phone is arriving real soon, then we don’t know what is. The folks over at Samsung can’t be hyping up the device for nothing after all. A one week delay is long enough for consumers to wait for the 4G phone, and I’m sure Verizon doesn’t want another HTC ThunderBolt fiasco. Folks looking forward to get their hands on the Droid Charge, keep those fingers crossed.

It looks like Microsoft wasn’t bluffing when they said using the Chevron WP7 updater to update your Windows Phone 7 devices would prevent your phone from receiving future updates. Microsoft has just confirmed that the security update (7392) that was pushed out yesterday won’t be able to be downloaded through the Zune client by unofficially updated phones. While not being able to get the minor security update isn’t a big deal, when the next major update arrives, you’ll be left in the dust as well.
So for now, the only solution would be to reset your phone back to its original state and perform the whole update process again ? or pray for someone to come up with an unofficial way to update the phone and hope that Microsoft doesn’t shut it down. The Chevron WP7 team is working on an unofficial tool to get you back on the right path without any drastic measures like a factory reset (they were the ones who provided the unofficial method of update in the first place) so stay tuned for that

A Korean designer named Hyun-Seok Kim has recently come up with a concept for a new robot floor cleaner and no, it’s not the Roomba. Maybe if you split the Roomba into four robots and add a pinch of cuteness. Called the Puppy Robotic, this cleaning robot is bound to put a smile on anyone’s face when they see the robots in action.
