T-Mobile rolls out BlackBerry OS 6 for Bold 9700

At long last, it seems that T-Mobile has finally rolled out the BlackBerry OS 6 for its BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone, although this piece of news did not come from an official spokesperson over at T-Mobile. The update hasn’t yet gone live on their website at press time, although Bold 9700 owners who connect to BlackBerry Desktop on their PCs shouldn’t have any problems with the update’s installation process. We do know that the release build is version 6.0.0.448, and what makes this special is that it is the first version of OS 6 made available to Bold 9700 users via T-Mobile.

BeeWi controls Mini Cooper via Bluetooth

Want to drive a car using a remote device, ala James Bond and his Sony Ericsson phone in the backseat while piloting a BMW 7 Series? Well, here is something less adventurous but equally exciting (for some) – an Android-powered BeeWi which controls a miniature Mini Cooper through the use of a Bluetooth connection. Intuitive motion control using a smartphone?s orientation sensor or touchscreen interface makes controlling this cute little car a hoot, where it will come with an extremely zippy motor alongside full directional steering. Powered by a trio of AA batteries, it will require an Android 2.1+ smartphone or a Nokia Symbian S60 (3rd or 5th edition).

FCC takes a look at the HTC Incredible S

The FCC has gotten a much more intimate look at the HTC Incredible S which sports the model number PG32120, having picked up FCC approval in the process for GSM 850, 1900 bands, not to mention 3G WCDMA bands II and V too. Both the GSM and WCDMA bands are utilized by AT&T in the US, which more or less gives the game away as to which carrier will it launch on down the road. Apart from that, we are still eagerly awaiting word on its pricing and availability, so those who are actually looking forward to the Incredible S might just want to see what Amazon?s German site has to offer.

You know, we do wonder about human psychology from time to time – does marketing something for free create more attention for it, or is selling it for just $0.01 a more effective method? Either way, we’re sure that folks who want a Windows Phone 7 handset will be interested to know that LG’s Quantum smartphone is now retailing for one cent whenever you decide to sign up for a 2-year plan with AT&T. Bear in mind that this deal works only for new activations, and you will need to keep it company with a minimum data service of $15 monthly. Just in case you were wondering how far one cent can get you these days, how does a 1GHz processor, 16GB of internal memory, 512MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording capability as well as 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity sound to you?

Verizon Wireless and AT&T will be sharing the iPad 2 pie this time around, where the former is already starting to advertise the presence of the iPad 2 even though it isn’t out just yet. Will this kind of marketing actually be effective to convince fence sitters? We’re not too sure ourselves, since it is safe to assume that everyone and their pet monkey are already hankering after the iPad’s sequel without the need for advertising – regardless, you can always wait for March 11th to roll by before making a beeline to your nearest Verizon Wireless store.

Google Maps updated to 5.2

What good is software if you cannot update it? We now know that Google Maps has just received an update, hitting version 5.2 this time around while offering a trio of major improvements to keep its fans happy. Basically, you can now tweet your reviews of places and share recommendations with Hotpot friends, while Latitude pinging allows you to send over a quick message to a nearby Latitude friend instead of having to rely on a text or call. Your mates will then receive an Android notification from you which will enquire of them to check in at a particular location, and once they do so, you would know where to rendezvous. Last but not least, the spanking new ‘Search More Places’ button has been thrown into the mix that might just come in handy if you tend to do a whole lot of Google Map-ping in crowded cities that has places stacked like a bunch of dishes.

Libya turns off Internet, fails to learn from

They say that history is the best teacher, but we’re rather amazed to know that Libya has failed to heed the lessons of an even that just passed recently – we’re talking about the uprising in Egypt and the deposement of their dictator. Well, Libya has decided to do the only thing an oppresive regime knows – turning off the Internet and hope that this media and information blackout will be able to prolong one’s stay in power. The whole situation might just end up pretty sour, although Gaddafi’s willingness to use lethal force against protestors and the presence of armed resistance could further deter any other forms of uprising.

DARPA has vampiric machine penciled in

Who would have thought that an organization like DARPA would actually have an interest in your blood? Why do we say so? Well, they have already penciled in a new machine which can suck all of your blood out, clean it and then send back the cleaned blood into your body, now how about that? This is a move that has the long term goal of reducing battlefield casualties, and is part of a ‘Dialysis-Like Therapeutics’ program which was specially designed to combat sepsis that is caused by the presence of toxins in one’s blood. DARPA hopes to come up with a machine that can filter up to 5 liters of blood simultaneously, further identifying, removing bacteria and viruses and poisons and other toxic elements before transporting the cleaned blood back into the body. Anyone has a way to help them out here?
