Activision defends charging for Call of Duty
Elite premium

COD EliteActivision has released a FAQ assuring Call of Duty players that the new “Elite” social-networking service will not be taking anything away from the games. It seems that people mistook Activision’s intent to add premium content to the multiplayer COD experience for changing it to a premium-only service.

In the six-page long FAQ (viewable here – PDF), they make it very clear that they aren’t taking anything away from the multiplayer experience we’ve known and have come to love. In fact, the Elite service will be adding a whole bunch of new features for absolutely no cost. Nobody is being forced to pay for anything, and if users want premium features (they have yet to announce them but they promise more will be revealed as we get closer to Modern Warfare 3′s launch) then only will they have to pay for it.

HP TouchPad runs Flash video too

Flash on HP TouchPad

For folks who are worried about the HP TouchPad‘s performance when it comes to handling Flash, great news. At the Qualcomm conference this week, HP showed off its TouchPad demonstrating a Flash video which it can run out of the box, and performance seems to be pretty good. There was a bit of lag and jerkiness at the beginning but as the video continued, it became smoother. The HP TouchPad will be running on Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon APQ8060 processor ? the chip manufacturer’s very first dual-core chip.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Android 3.1 wont be delayed

Galaxy Tab 10.1

Earlier today there were rumors from Eldar Murtazin saying that the Android 3.1 version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 tablets in Europe would be delayed until August. With such a huge delay between the announcement of Android 3.1 and the arrival of the operating system on the tablets, obviously a lot of folks weren’t happy. After all, the Motorola Xoom already has the update, and Verizon is also supposedly releasing the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with LTE this summer, also packing Android 3.1.

Well, the folks over at BGR didn’t believe the rumors and decided to reach out to Google instead. And it seems that Google has confirmed to them that such rumors aren’t true. I guess it looks like the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 with Android 3.1 will be arriving on time after all. Then again, you’ll never know what “last minute changes” might pop up, so keep those fingers crossed for now ? at least until you see those tablets in retail outlets. In the meantime, check out our review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android tablet.

Samsung Infuse 4G Review

infuse 4g review

AT&T?s Samsung Infuse 4G is described as ?big. brilliant. thin?. That?s an accurate description which is almost surprising for marketing message. However, it does summarize fairly well what the phone is about. As a former ?computer graphics guy?, I sometimes say that ?the display is the computer?, and this is particularly true for the Infuse 4G: its big 4.5? display draws a lot of ?wooo? and ?ahhh?, but such a large display often gets a love (mostly), or hate, reaction. For a big phone, it is also relatively light: it?s lighter than the iPhone 4. So, how is it to carry the Samsung Infuse 4G around and use it in the real world? Is it as good as AT&T says it is? I tried it for a couple of weeks, and in this review I?ll tell you about its greatness and its pitfalls.

T-Mobile G2x Gingerbread update next week

T-Mobile G2xThe Gingerbread update was rumored to arrive for the T-Mobile G2x this summer, but thanks to some tipsters, it turns out that we might be getting it earlier than expected. Android and Me has reported that according to their “ninjas” G2x owners will be seeing the update as early as the first half of next week, and in addition to the Gingerbread update, it might include fixes to problems that have been ailing some G2x users (phone lock ups, random reboots etc).

Since there’s no word or official confirmation from T-Mobile, it’s hard to tell if this is true or not, but I’m sure if they did it would make a lot of people happy. Now where’s the Gingerbread love for the HTC G2 owners? Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted.

Microsoft to limit number of Windows Phone 7 app
approvals daily per developer

Windows Marketplace

In an effort to make the “new apps” section of its Windows Phone 7 Marketplace more relevant, Microsoft has announced a new policy where developers can only have a max of twenty apps approved a day. So while a developer can submit more than twenty apps for Marketplace approval daily, only twenty of them will make it into the shop at the same time. The remainder will have to wait, and the same goes for every twenty apps available from the developer.

Seeing how quickly the Windows Marketplace has been growing, the number of apps and developers currently working with the WP7 platform must be staggering and this new rule would greatly benefit them. Especially new developers who don’t have a whole catalog of apps to vouch for their credibility and need to rely on the “new apps” section to be discovered.

This should also introduce more variety to the Windows Marketplace, with more apps from different developers showing up at the same time. Read up more about the change on the official Windows Phone Developer blog.

Apple hires jailbroken iPhone developer

Peter HajasNow we’ve all heard rumors about a new notification system in the pipeline for iOS 5 but there hasn’t been any concrete proof behind the stories. But judging by the latest reports, it might be coming true after all. Peter Hajas, the man behind Mobile Notifier, a notification app used in jailbroken iPhones has been confirmed to have been picked up by Apple.

He recently posted on his Facebook page that he is currently an intern at Apple ? a position that most Apple iOS/OS X developers have started in over the years. While he’s only joined Apple recently and iOS 5 is going to be announced next week, it’s highly unlikely we’ll be seeing the new notifications soon, but we can probably expect it to arrive on the platform (if it ever does) sometime in the future.

How many of you have jailbroken your iPhone to use Mobile Notifier?

Kick 4 A Cause gives free sOccket balls to the
needy

Kick 4 A CauseState Farm Insurance has announced its noble partnership with this year’s 2011 Gold Cup tournament. In conjunction with the event, they have also released an app that can help bring electricity to families in Latin America countries. Called Kick 4 A Cause, this free app for iOS devices is an augmented reality game where you use your phone to make any space your own soccer field.

What’s great about playing this game is that each time the game is played for a certain amount of time, a sOccket is donated to a Latin America country. In case you didn’t know what a sOccket is, it is a soccer ball that can transform kinetic energy into electricity. Kicking it around for just 15 minutes generates enough electricity to power an LED lamp for hours. Combine something that Latin Americans love together with something that could benefit them, and you have a winning device.

Head over to the Apple App Store to download the app and find out more about the Kick 4 A Cause program.
