In case you didn’t already know, Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet comes with its very own web browser: Silk, which is touted to improve surfing speeds by compressing web sites before sending them to your device. This means pages will be smaller, and will consume less data and speed up load times when browsing on the tablet. While the feature is already available in browsers like Opera Mini, for those of you who want Amazon’s browser instead, you’re in luck.
The folks over at XDA-developers have managed to extract the browser from the tablet and ported it over to non-Kindle Fire Android devices. It has been reportedly working on the devices like the Motorola Atrix and Droid X, but it’ll require a rooted phone in order to work. Head over to the thread at XDA-developers for the files and instructions on how to get it working on your phone/tablet.

Remember the LG Optimus One ? the Android phone that was released on pretty much every carrier in the US last year? It looks like LG has got a sequel in the works called the LG Optimus 2 (not to be confused with the Optimus 2X). An entry for the phone has been spotted on LG’s website in addition to pictures of the device. The LG Optimus 2 features an 800 MHz processor, a 3.2″ (320 x 480) display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 179MB of internal storage, a 2GB microSD card preloaded (up to 32GB supported), and a 1,500mAh battery.
No word on pricing or release plans for the device but if LG follows its predecessor’s footsteps, we should see the Optimus 2 being sold everywhere again. Expect LG to announce the Optimus 2 in the near future – CES 2012 perhaps?

We all know by now how much Microsoft wants to get rid of its Internet Explorer 6 web browser and it looks like it’s been working hard at getting the word out. According to its latest announcement on its Internet Explorer blog, it has been reported that IE 6 usage in the US has now officially dropped below 1%. In addition to the US, the rest of the world has been following suit as well, with the Czech Republic, Mexico, Ukraine, Portugal and the Philippines also hitting the 1% usage of the “Champion’s Circle”.
At the time of writing, 7.7% of the world still uses IE 6 so it might be a few more years before it is completely eliminated. How many of you recently upgraded from IE6, and what browser do you use now?

While Android has got its fair share of Siri clones on its platform, Windows Phone hasn’t been getting as much love from developers when it comes to voice activated assistants, until today. Called Ask Ziggy, this new app brings natural speech functionality to users of Windows Phone devices. The folks over at WPCentral recently posted up a video demonstration of the app and it sure is pretty impressive.
At the moment it’s not as polished as Siri (it definitely has a long way to go), with most of the commands returning links to search results instead of displaying them in the app, but it does give users the ability to send out Tweets or update your Facebook status with your voice, and it is capable of answering trivial questions such as “was Darth Vader a good guy?”. Check out a video demonstration of the app below, or head over to the Windows Marketplace to pick it up (free).

Samsung has just announced the launch of a new audio docking system designed to play audio from your mobile devices. First up we have the Samsung Audio Dock with Vacuum Tube Amplifier ? touted as the world’s first docking system to use Samsung’s hybrid vacuum tube amplifier technology and support Galaxy S smartphones as well as iOS devices (surprising when you take into account the ongoing legal battles between Apple and Samsung).

Add to myYahoo!Hardcore PC racing simulator enthusiasts would argue that there is no alternative to a force feedback wheel and pedals, and they might be right, but not everybody has $300+ to fork out on an expensive setup. At the same time not everyone is contempt either being a keyboard racer or having to make do with a sub-par wheel or console style game controller. This is where SteelSeries and Ignite Game Technologies come into play. Together they have developed the SteelSeries Simraceway SRW-S1 motion sensitive steering wheel. A wheel that bridges the gap between console style game controllers and high end wheel/pedal setups, and it is available now from the SteelSeries web shop for $119.99 MSRP. Out of the box it is setup to work with Ignite's 'Simraceway' online racing simulator for the PC, but SteelSeries state that it will work with just about any racing game designed for the PC. Here at Benchmark Reviews we take marketing claims at face value and we always leave our judgement to real world testing, but if looks are anything to go by then we are in for one hell of a treat.
