Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is free to play
this weekend

Counter-Strike is one of those classic FPS games that many of us grew up with, and if you?re like me, chances are you might have gotten your hands on the latest iteration of the game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Well if you haven?t either because you didn?t know about it, or because you weren?t sure if it was the same game that you remembered from back in the day, you will be able to give the game a go this weekend. Valve has announced that they will be putting up Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for free this weekend and the offer is said to be running from now until Sunday 1PM. All you need to do is launch Steam (or download it if you haven?t), scroll down to the ?free weekend? banner and you should be able to get your hands on the game then. So if you were wondering what to do this weekend, it looks like you might have your answer!

Grand Theft Auto 5 leaked promotional materials
give away some of the locations within the game

Rockstar has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 will be headed our way in Spring 2013, and that pre-orders of the game will begin on the 5th of November. Retailers are supposed to start putting up promotional material then but it looks like those promo materials have since been leaked, which not only gives us a glimpse at some of the freebies that pre-orders of the game will net you, but it also revealed some locations within the game.

As you can see in the image above, it looks like those who pre-order will be able to get their hands on what appears to be a keychain image viewer. Additional promotional materials include some posters which revealed the Zancudo River, the Vinewood Hills, the Del Perro Pier, the Vespucci Canals and Grapeseed. We?re not sure what exactly those areas will feature, but it does give us a clue as to what we might be able to expect. Hopefully more details will be given once pre-orders go live, so do check back with us then for the updates! So, who?s planning on pre-ordering themselves a copy of the game?

PlayStation 4 rumored to feature AMDs A10 APU,
dev kit shipping to developers

Sony PlayStation 3

PlayStation 3

As consumers we always want the latest and greatest, or at least the greatest that our bank accounts will allow us to have. That being said, there has been plenty of talk of next-gen consoles from both Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo has already announced their next-gen console, the Wii U, which left many to speculate that Microsoft and Sony?s next-gen consoles won?t be too far behind and could be making an appearance at E3 2013. While that remains to be seen, a recent report has surfaced which has suggested that PlayStation 4 dev kits have begun shipping to developers. (more…)

The Bambory Speakers are a set of speakers made
from bamboo

Wood is typically the choice material used when crafting speakers given the inherent acoustic qualities found in wood, but will bamboo be just as good as hard woods? While I have yet to test out a set of bamboo speakers myself, this concept speaker by designer Guo Yang looks extremely appealing from an aesthetic point of view. Dubbed the Bambory Speakers, it features a body made from bamboo, similar to that of a bamboo basket, with the front grills made from what is reportedly ceramic, which we have to admit is a pretty interesting choice. It gives off a pretty clean and simple look, and to a certain extent looks very homely. We?re not sure what sort of specs the design had in mind, but its design is certainly good enough to warrant a place on the mantelpiece or bookshelf. Any takers?

iOS 7 concept video brings resizable icons and
widgets to the table

It was pretty big news a few days ago when it was announced that Apple had let Scott Forstall go, and that Jony Ive would now be in charge of designing iOS. Given Ive?s success with designing Apple?s products so far, we can only imagine what he might have planned for iOS, especially with his taste in minimalist designs and clean interfaces, versus Forstall?s taste in skeumorphic design. That being said if we were to expect a major revamp in design for iOS, we might have to wait until iOS 7 but until then, designer Max Rudberg has come up with a concept video in which he imagines how iOS 7 could look like. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean leaked for Motorola Droid
RAZR HD and Droid RAZR MAXX HD

If you have picked up either the Motorola Droid RAZR HD or its larger battery sibling, the Droid RAZR MAXXX HD, you might be interested to learn that both of these devices will be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The official update is scheduled to be released by the end of the year, but in the meantime it looks like a leaked Jelly Bean for either device has been leaked. This firmware leak has been labeled as 9.1.39Xt926.verizon.en.us and it is thanks to DirtyDroidX from DroidRzr. This leak should work on both the RAZR HD and the RAZR MAXX HD as both devices are pretty much the same, save for the latter with its larger battery capacity.

We?re not sure if this is the final build that will be officially released by Verizon and Motorola, but for now it looks like it?s an official build, but as to whether it is the final build remains to be seen. In any case if you?d rather not wait for Verizon/Motorola to start pushing out the official update, you can go ahead and download the leaked build and flash it onto your device yourself (instructions can be found in the source link below). If you?re unfamiliar with flashing then perhaps you might want to give this a pass, especially since bad things could happen to your phone if you were to mess up along the way.

FTC could sue Google and Motorola over abuse of
standard-essential patents

It seems rather ironic that after Apple had offered to pay Motorola $1 for every iPhone to license Motorola?s standard-essential patents, that some of the FTC?s staff have suggested that the agency?s commissioners should sue Google over their abuse of standard-essential patents. Apparently the staff believe that Google and their recently acquired subsidiary, Motorola, have violated antitrust laws by trying to prevent their competitors from accessing said patents. In particular they have pointed out both Apple and Microsoft as the competitors, and as some of you guys are aware, both Apple and Microsoft have had legal tussles with Motorola in the past.

Like we said earlier, Apple had offered to pay Motorola $1 for every iPhone, but it seems that Motorola wants more which could amount to $15 per phone sold, a whopping 1,500% more than what Apple is prepared to pay. This is an issue that the FTC have been investigating since June this year and whether they will go ahead with the lawsuit remains to be seen, but an official announcement regarding the matter is expected to be announced after the general election on the 6th of November.

Han Solo and Chewie make an appearance in latest
Angry Birds Star Wars gameplay trailer

So yesterday we saw another gameplay trailer for Rovio?s upcoming Angry Birds Star Wars which featured R2-D2 and C-3PO. Well another gameplay trailer has since been released, and this time it stars none other than Han Solo and Chewie, giving gamers a glimpse at what those particular birds can do. Han Solo will be able to fire lasers from his gun mid-air, while Chewie appears to be pure brute strength and will basically smash through pigs and structures. The game is scheduled for a release on the 8th of November so if you like what you?ve seen so far, you might want to mark that date down on your calendar. Until then hopefully the gameplay trailer in the video above will be enough to keep you entertained.
